What the hell is on tv during the summer?

I can't really find any good scifi to watch this summer. Is anything good on? I've even taken up reading again. I watched about an hour of tv yesterday and that was it.

reading :eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek: oh the horror!

much of the best scifi is in the ancient paper-based medium. some great summer reading, i'd suggest:

- the foundation series (re-live your youth!)
- star ship troopers (feel like a teenager again!)
- never let me go (cause the movie is about to come out!)
- the martian chronicles (nice short stories for the beach)

and if it's TV you need, have you considered watching something old?

only thing I'm watching so far is True Blood and Entourage. Waiting for Mad Men to start up. Gonna pick up the full series of The Wire and catch up on Breaking Bad as well.

Hasn't summer television been about nothing to watch and reruns since, well... television started?

What did you do every other summer since birth?

Hell is right. Pretty sad situation.

Futurama is our only bright light. If I got HBO, I'd be watching True Blood (I'll catch up on DVD).

Persons Unknown is fairly interesting if you don't have overly high standards. But even low standards can't make The Gates anything other than boring, intolerable schlock.

I'll check out Haven next week, but I'm worried it'll be yet another clumsy misfire. A lot of that happening lately. Hollywood should combine the half-dozen quarter-assed sf/f shows they've been trotting out over the past few months into ONE watchable show.

Well, to be fair, there are a heck of a lot more choices during the summer on TV now then when I was a kid. Also, a lot of shows don't follow the September-December, January-May schedule anymore, sometimes it can be hard to keep track of what's on and when, especially on cable.

I've been saving those on TiVo, but I got the impression it was going to be canceled pretty quickly?? I don't start arc-based shows anymore until I know they're going to last. Been burned too many times.

Same thing with Happy Town. Is that officially canceled? Will it at least finish the storyline?

I hate this about TV shows now.

Anyway, Eureka and Warehouse 13 will be starting soon. Futurama is running (Good News, Everyone!). I'll give Haven a try.

Aside from that, it's a Netflix summer...

I've been reading a LOT this summer (i think i've been through 6 or 7 books since the start of June) and we are catching up on the Showtime and HBO shows (we don't have any premium channels) via the library. Not a sci-fi show, but damn good, we are now watching Six Feet Under and (True Blood.)

I'm watching True Blood and rewatching the recut of DragonBall Z they've been showing on Nicktoons. I tried watching the Gates last night, but it wasn't very good. My girlfriend wanted to watch Happy Town and we did, but I think that already ended a week or two ago. I was watching the Tudors(not scifi), but that ended. I am extremely disappointed in Warehouse 13 and Eureka is just sort of okay, but doesn't excite me. My girlfriend loves it though.

I think I'm going to be reading The Wizard's First Rule pretty soon if nothing presents itself on tv.

PU (I guess nobody checked the acronym before deciding on a title :rommie:) is still on the schedule, and it's just a miniseries, so maybe they won't cancel it. But I'm pretty sure HT is gone.
