What songs remind you of Star Trek?

I can't stand anime. But I love this song.

It has an absolutely surreal feeling--and also reminds me of the music for the Trek XI trailer (that wasn't on the CD, dammit!). This definitely captures the feeling of seeing the new, but extremely distorted timeline created by the incursion of the Narada. The most surreal thing of all to me (and perhaps the best) was nuPike. So in some ways, this is what it felt like to see nuPike and all that he went through (and all that went WAY differently for him). He's the one character who really WON in that movie, no doubt of it.

(Mind you, I DID like the movie overall, so this is not a slam by any means.)

I'm listening to the songs now and will edit my responses into this post. I tried multi-quoting and got all messed up so I'm just going to do it the hard way!

I have only watched TOS and the new Star Trek movie, so I can't make the connections to other series, but I'm sure I will appreciate the songs nonetheless! :)

Kansas' Icarus: Borne on Wings of Steel

Lyricwise, it just IS Trek to me.

Love it! I found this cool aviation video set to the song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yjc1LU5Qjds I loved when it said "Earth's so far below me..." Seems appropriate, doesn't it?

Stressin out by adema reminds me of janeway and the choices she had to make. Runaway by liken park reminds me of kes from fury. im probly gna think of some more

I hadn't heard the Adema song before, though I was familiar with Linken Park. I think the Adema song could fit nuSpock... poor guy had a rough day in Abramsverse... :D

Lenny Kravitz: "Fly Away" same season and a video I did when I was into doing them...

Cool video... great work! I love this song. Takes me back to the 90's, ha ha. It could span multiple series, couldn't it? :)

Carolina Liar's "Show Me What I'm Looking For" is a perfect for Star Trek XI.

This sounds familiar though I can't put my finger on where I've heard it. It's a nice, mellow/drama (melodrama? ;) ) kind of song. Just curious, was there a specific aspect of Star Trek XI it makes you think of?

Wellllll, it shouldn't surprise you, but most of the songs that come to mind quickly are ones that remind me of my favorite Trek species.

Here are a few that capture what it would be like to live in the Cardassian Union--

Coldplay--"Spies"

I wish I were familiar with this species. I have so much to learn about Trek! However, I love Coldplay. I had never heard this song... it's gorgeous, as is most of their music! The lead singer's voice has a natural mystical quality to it. I often think of them in connection with fantasy or sci-fi works.

---Going to listen to the rest of the songs later. All this music has me swaying along and humming in my chair. My cat thinks her human has gone a little nuts. :D

Well, there's a little throwaway line in Trek XI mentioning the Cardassians, while of course they were never heard of in TOS. As to why that's the case, I do have a pet theory about that. (But it took me an entire short story to do it. I could PM you if you were interested, of course. It might also introduce you to the Cardassian Union.)

Anyway, can't wait to see the rest of your responses!

The intro to "The Light" by Spock's Beard reminds me of the music to Shore Leave for some reason, and the bit after that reminds me of the TOS theme. The name of the band probably helps reinforce that though.

This link seems to have an extra character in it which is generating an error message for me. Let's see if this works: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yjc1LU5Qjds

(I'd recently been revisiting a lot of Kansas tracks I hadn't listened to in years, so this was another bump to that, besides.)

I'm feeling a bit cheesy today, so beware.

Oldie but goldie, Elvis, You where always on my mind, Sarek-Amanda.

Green Day, Boulevard of broken dreams, Spock.

On a brighter note, Mambo nr. five for our favourite Captain

I have NO idea how I forgot this song...it totally fits Damar, as long as you substitute the one mention of "Russia" with "Cardassia."

Seriously, I would LOVE to see someone make a video of this. The rebellion could be the instrumental part...

Porcupine Tree--Russia on Ice

So, Tribbles...can't wait to hear what you thought of the rest of these songs!

LOVE Damar, LOVE Porcupine Tree, and I'm a big fan of this song. Hadn't thought of this one before. Great pick!:)

That was one of my favorites, of my choices, too. :D

I mean, even the tolling bell at the end is just chillingly appropriate!

"Ride, Captain, Ride" by Blues Image.

For the verses: "Ride, Captain, Ride, upon your mystery ship,
on your way to a world that others might have missed.
Ride, Captain Ride, upon your mystery ship,
be amazed at the friends you have here on your trip."

And it only reminds me of Kirk and the TOS crew...a group of truly amazing friends.

Aerosmith's "Fly Away From Here," which captures the spirit of what I feel a TOS prequel should have been like:

Gotta find a way
Yeah, I can't wait another day
And nothin' gonna change
If we stay around here
Gotta do what it takes
Cause it's all in our hands
We all make mistakes, yeah
But it's never to late to start again
Take another breath
And say another prayer

Then fly away from here
Anywhere
Yeah, I don't care
We'll just fly away from here
Our hopes and dreams are out there somewhere
Won't let time pass us by
We'll just fly

(TOS) Triumph - "Somebody's Out There"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nc4lOz90WXs

I always pictured this song as one that you could feasibly see as the one playing at the end of a fan series during the closing credits. Or just noted as an ".MP3" link somewhere in a fan fic's "Series Bible" as it's soundtrack/theme. (ie: "Dangerzone" - Kenny Loggins from "Top Gun".)

Lyrics:

Is it fate or random chance
How can I decide
Are we victims of circumstance
When destinies collide
All the odds are against you
But somehow you make it through
You can rationalize it away
But it all comes down to you
Half our lives we spend waiting
For the knock upon the door
When it comes, will it be the one
That I've been waiting for
CHORUS:
Somebody's out there, somewhere
Waiting for someone to come their way
Somebody's out there, somewhere
I will somehow be somebody's someone
Someday
Standing in the shadows
Hiding from the light
Reach out in the darkness
And hold on for your life
All the fear of the future
All the loneliness inside
When the moment of truth arrive, hey,
You can run but you can't hide
CHORUS
...I can feel it inside me
I've been holding on so long
Something's tellin' me something's got to give
'Cause the feeling's way too strong, too strong

There's Another Girl Another Planet by the Only Ones, which starts:

I always flirt with death
I could kill, but I don't care about it
I can face your threats
Stand up tall and scream and shout about it

Possible TOS influence here?
