^^ I can't help to think of the Doctor Who episode "Love and Monsters" now when I hear this song.

I hate to admit that I don't mind a lot of show tunes, but I am not at all a fan of most opera.

Excellent costumes, though!

For some reason I've become fascinated with it lately. But it's not just the songs, it has to have a stage production that I really like. The clip I posted has scenery and lighting I really like, so that's a big appeal of this particular piece.

Also opera is to singing what ballet is to dancing. It requires monumental control over one's vocal chords. It's why I love the piece I posted. There's a bit or two where I wonder how the song is pulled off without the singer gasping for air.

Anyways....

I respect the hell out of the artists' skills and focus and control...the style, though, is just not to my taste. Kinda like most jazz; I respect the hell out of it, but I prefer not to listen to it on my own time.

Similarly, I respect Bob Dylan's and Frank Zappa's lyrics and messages, but I do not prefer their musical styles. Something about them grates on me.

Two things about Metallica's And Justice for All: most people prefer other albums from them, such as Master of Puppets, but while I'm a(n ex-)bass player and they kinda screwed Jason Newsted on that album by at best burying the bass lines and at worst completely removing them, I prefer that album over all others for the technical precision of it.

Thank you, Russian Doll, for putting this song into my brain FOREVER.
