Of all three seasons of TOS, which season did you think was the best and which one was your most favorite? As for me I think all three seasons were great, but in my oppion I think season two was the best one. There were so many good episodes one after except for Assignment Earth, which I thought was kind of werid and not as good as the others. Anyways other than that episode of season 2, I thought saeon two was the best and is also my most favorite. So what are you thoughts on all three seasons?

Season One was a bit of a mixed bag, since the whole thing was still in a bit of flux, but some of the more science fiction concepts took place in that season. With Gene Coon's arrival, midway through the first season and on through most of the second, things certainly settled in, the characters gained a firmer footing, but the stories seemed to move more towards morality plays than harder sci-fi storytelling. Not a criticism, by any means, just an observation. The third season still had some bizzare ideas presented, but by that point, between the budget cuts, the change in studio management, a new producer who didn't seem to fully understand the show, we're probably lucky that the show was still as good as it was.

Bottom line, all three seasons were so different from each other that it's a little difficult to really say which one is "better". More like which one do you like better.

The Doomsday Machine. That kind of knocks it over the edge for me, although every season had their winners and losers.

The pre-Coon part of the first season. Yes, the characters were still in flux, but you really felt you were abord the ship. The characters seemed more real and the show featured more of the crew. Coon made a concious decision to merely focus on the "Big Three," whereas the first half of S1 had more of an ensemble cast feel.

I love all three, to be honest. I'll admit that Season 3 was probably the weakest of the bunch, but I still thought it was great.

And the interesting this about TOS is that it really got going right away, where as most of the other Trek shows took a couple seasons to really find their groove.

The most consistent season is the second - in the first there's a lot of experimenting as it's worked out exactly what the series is about and what it can and can't do, as well as the gradual evolution from the original high science fiction concept towards Coon's vision of the show, resulting in some episodes which just don't work (hello The Armageddon Factor), and Season Three... is Season Three.

However, precisely because the show was still in a state of flux, season one's greater variety in styles of shows still makes it my favourite.

I voted second yr, but for me it is probably when Coon produced, from middle of yr 1 to middle of yr 2. Coon + Lucas producing was better than Coon + GR producing.

Season One. You can eliminate the rest of the series and still have ninety percent of what made it great - you lose about four first-rate shows at most.

I do think season 3 gets a bad rap. I just got it on Blu-Ray and there are some great episodes. Take away the Space Hippies and you have a pretty solid season of Star Trek.

What, crap like "That Which Survives," "Spectre Of The Gun," "Wink Of An Eye," or "The Children Will Lead?" "Plato's Stepchildren," really?

Most of Season 3 edges into Space: 1999 territory.

Meh.. The Enterprise Incident, The Tholian Web, All Our Yesterdays, The Paradise Syndrome, Last Battlefield, For the World is Hollow... Hardly crappy episodes..

Season two for me. Amok Time, Mirror Mirror, and I even liked A Piece of the Action. Though, all of the season had their gems.

Season two for me is when they hit their stride. Season one a very close second and three a very close third. Heh, I love them all one way or another.

Does the word "punk" mean anything to you, Dennis?
Hate on the lack of budget, not on the writing.;)
