It's true about DS9. What we're seeing here is not simply imperfect people but a somewhat incremental leaning toward a dystopia. As said in the video, when things got bad with Enterprise, instead of coming back they jumped all the way to the other side.
Incrementalism is the frog analogy. If you boil a frog too quickly, it jumps out... but if you slowly raise the temperature, the frog will boil to death without ever moving out.

Argumentum ad populum doesn't work well on me. I never forged my opinions based on peer pressure. This is what really happened to Star Trek
Incrementalism is amusing, because eventually we'll see Kirk torture and beat people to death like in the serie "24" and people here will be saying "so what? he's imperfect, like DS9!".
ST:11 is an incredible milestone in turning trekkers into neo-cons.
In case you haven't been keeping up with current events, the United States is wrestling very seriously and painfully with the revelations of torture. As to the youth who are all passive-agressive neo-cons... really? Are those the youth who voted for the other guy in record numbers? Who turned against the very philosophy you claim they represent? Little quick for revisionist history, isn't it?Exactly. We're in the 21st century where the US openly admits that they torture, and where they invade other countries, and so that's indeed the mentality behind this new movie: targetting the new youth that are more neo-con and passive-aggressive and thereby creating the new generation of trekkers: the neo-con.
And what to do with the "trek purists that live in the 60s with their utopias"? Nothing - the movie is called Star Trek, the guy is called James T. Kirk, there's a ship called Enterprise... they'll go along with it.
It is amazing to me that killing a genocidal maniac in battle now makes one "a neocon."
I've read Gep's thread and does articulate well that he felt a malaise. But the video i posted actually puts the finger on where the malaise comes from.

Wrong forum. No politics here, please -- we're discussing the movie and have no use for trolls. Links removed (thanks, all, for quoting it several times.) Thread closed.
