What Marvel films are worth seeing?

They are moderatly ok....suffers from the usual formularic stuff you guys seems to enjoy so much....it is like junkfood...sometimes it is ok....can't say that the superhero really hits my nerve much....then again I never liked American comics much....all that bad drama ;) But yeah for a few fun moments Guardians, The Capitain Boyscout stuff is prolly the most complete of them!

Even the much-derided THE DARK WORLD is a whole lot of fun.
I'm getting very pissy over the Dark World hate. I put it in my top 5 MCU films. I enjoyed Ragnarok but the whole "Hey, I didn't like the other two Thor's and I bet you didn't either" attitude got tiresome fast.

My favorite Odin is Dark World Odin. My favorite Loki is Dark World Loki. Dark World gave Frigga a part. "Mu mu!" is one of the best lines in all of the MCU.

It had a terrible and boring villain. Which given it was Eccleston is a damn shame. But then the only actual character interaction he really has is with Frigga in one scene and that works pretty well. (The other scenes he shares with Heroes are pretty much rants.)

Oh and it has one of the only musical scores that I listen to start to finish. (OK, all three of the Thor films had great scores.)

My favourites are the 3 Captain America-movies. Liked the stories, the characters, the drama. Also enjoyed Black Panther, Dr Strange and Thor 1+2 - absolutely despised Ragnarok, though. 2 absolutely wasted hours of my life (and yes, I thought about just abandoning the movie, I guess I made it through because of the eye-candy Hemsworth).

Glad to know I'm not the only person who liked TheDark World. I loved Ragnarok, it was my favorite Thor so far and up towards the very top of the overall MCU.

Clearly, we need to form a support group for us DARK WORLD fans.

Is this what it's like to like THE FINAL FRONTIER? :)

My first thought was "Of COURSE not!" but then I gave it some thought... You might be on to something. Both in "Is this what they sound like?" and also "Is this what I sound like?"

I need to lie down...

You know what one of my absolute favorite bits of T:TDW is? When Thor is at "revels" and everyone is carousing and telling their stories. Volstagg finishes his drink and smashes the cup shouting "ANOTHER!" They crowd cheers appreciatively. Thor quietly sets his cup down and smiles.

There's certainly a fair share of goofy in Thor 1 and 2. I mean, c'mon. Thor gets hit by a car twice in the first Thor. "Why are all of these shoes here?" in Thor 2. I liked Ragnarok, there's just a certain tipping point from laughing with to laughing at. Ragnarok got on the wrong side of that line in some places. (How did we go from Thor being the Infinity Stone expert in Age of Ultron to "Infinity Stone Thingys"?) OTOH, the Thor and Loki show was as good as ever. That was the one piece that felt in continuity with the other two films.

Marvel Studios films have critical praise, audience praise, fan praise and massive box office.

What other metric of success is there for these big tentpole blockbuster films? Marvel is firing on all cylinders.

It does have to do with Marvel succeeding with the one thing that I believe movies are supposed to do: entertaining people.

If I enjoy it, that is quality enough to me. Intellectually I understand 2001 is a quality movie. It bores me to tears, so it would be difficult for me to care less about the quality of the movie.

That doesn't mean they're all good/great films. It just means they're popular, and popularity has nothing whatsoever to do with quality.

If critical, commercial and public success and appreciation aren't enough to make something a good/great film...what does?

I read marvel Comics starting in the 1970ies (and also started to collect back issues so I read the majority of FF, Avernger and Spider-Man and also Hulk, Thor, Dr. Strange (from Astonishing Tales befoore they got their own books much later) up through the early 1980ies.

I too never understood the hate Thor 2 has gotten because it gave all the characters some decent scenes; AND has probably the best exchanges between Thor and Loki (which occurs as Thor is breaking Loki and Jane out of Asgard to go and make his futile first attempt to destroy the Aether); and includes a wonderful cameo by Chris Evans playing Loki impersonating Captain America.

My favorite Loki line in the film is when he says to Thor during that whole sequence:
Loki: (To Thor): You lied!...I'm impressed."<-- The whole succulence is classic Thor<--->Loki banter

The film (like the majority of MCU films has some issues here and there, but overall it still does a good job with the Asgardian characters; and overall is still fun to watch (IMO).

Thor: The Dark World is one of the dozen or so MCU films that is actually worth watching, so I'll wholeheartedly join in the support for it.

^ I actually started out really enjoying the MCU.

I also count all of the non-MCU Spider-Man films, Batman Forever, and the Matrix Trilogy amongst my favorite Superhero films, so your presumption is incorrect.
