What kind of PC case do you have?

Anyway what kind of case do you guys have?
I have two PCs that I've built this year, one at work and one for the wife.

I like big cases so have gotten a bit carried away at times.

Here is the case for my PC at work. It's a Thermaltake Core X9.

The other PC I just finished in November was for my wife. It's in a Corsair Graphite 760T case.

And the PC I use at home was built about two years ago and is in a Corsair Obsidian 650D case.

They're all very nice cases but probably too large for most tastes (especially the Thermaltake which is HUGE.)

I have this case by Lian Li in the same colour. It looks pretty cool.

But I recently found I don't have that many options as far as mainboards go (it's a Mini ITX). It does collect a lot of dust because it has so many holes in it and I probably killed my previous mainboard because I never bothered to clean the case and the board overheated. When we opened the case it was very, very dusty. I guess I'll have to clean it regularly from now on (about once a year).

Once a year is not enough, every three months remove all fans and clean those with a brush, not air, clean the inside of the case with a can of compressed air carefully and put back the fans, that will keep it alive on top of that, once a year take it apart completely, clean it and reassemble.

As for why not to clean fans with compressed air, else you will blow dust right into the bearings which will kill the fan pretty quickly.

My main computer at home has a very unique case. It's in the kitchen, in a high traffic area, so I wanted something that didn't look like a boring computer. I built a cabinet that hangs on the wall. The bottom part is what looks like a big drawer, but if you open it you'll find all of the computer parts there. In the front of the drawer is a door that opens to reveal the DVD drive, USB ports, and buttons. The buttons are just pieces of wooden dowels inserted into holes that push the actual buttons behind the panel. I cannibalized an old case for buttons, hard drive cages, etc. Above that drawer is a shelf for the printer and speakers and above that is a decorative shelf. The cabinet hangs on the wall above the desk. The bottom of the drawer has a couple of 120 mm fans in it for ventilation.

My media computer is similar, in that it is housed in a hutch that sits next to the TV (no actual case, just parts sitting on the shelf. It occupies the top shelf of the hutch and hides behind a panel I mounted in front to hold the USB ports and buttons.

There's also a very old chieftec? full tower that I've had since 2000, with a load of crap in that sits in the storeroom doing the menial tasks. First PC I ever made (well the bits that are still there) and I'm a bit emotionally attached.

I know that mine is a thermaltake one, but I can't find the exact case online at the moment:(

Seems to do the job anyway.

I have built some fancy gaming rigs before, but right now I just have a generic full tower with 6TB storage, SSD Boot Drive and still running Win7.
Married now, so I turn the thing on maybe once every two weeks. I use an Droid tablet in the evening and the computer at work daytime mostly...

I finally found pics of my last case. Ultra brand, clear side with a "funnel" for the CPU fan and lots o slots. I put the Creative I/O bay behind the open space on the door.

Simple enough question. What kind of PC case do you have, and how often do you find you have to clean the insides?

I have one of these.

It's a nice case and something a little different but it's a big fat dust magnet. I find I have to pull everything out once every 12 months and go through the whole thing cleaning it.

The motherboard is held in place on a removable tray, which is a good thing, but geez this thing likes dust. Today just happens to be that time of year too, and looking inside I am seeing a shit ton of dust that doesn't please me.

Anyway what kind of case do you guys have?

Maybe you could try taking a dust filter from a home heating system and use it for your computer case.

Cut the filter to the size of the vent opening. Poke small holes in the filter to allow for air to still pass through.

You should have a lot less dust in your computer case at the end of the year.

but geez this thing likes dust.
I didn't think to mention it the other day, but there are places you can get custom made case filters. Here is a company that will custom make magnetic dust filters for you if they don't already have them for your case.

www.demcifilter.com

I have one of their filters on the top of my Corsair Obsidian 650D and it works great.

^ ^ I have ram chips just like those ones in red. They look cool but I find the heatsink totally not necessary.
