What Job would you do?

jadzia_dax2369

Lieutenant Junior Grade
Red Shirt
hey fellow trekkers

just wondering,

if starfleet was real would you sign up or not.
if you would what job would you do.?

i'd be either a science officer, a Medical officer or an Enginer

Probably science though from watching the show it does seem very physics and maths based while I'm a chemistry graduate so I might struggle. I'd like to try being a pilot and tactical looks fun too. Of course who wouldn't want to sit in the captain's chair.

I'd like to think I'd be a skilled bridge officer, like a helmsman or something like that. I like the idea of being at the heart of what's going on.
In reality, I'd probably just be scrubbing the head, and getting chewed out for doing a rotten job.

I am - and would be - a teacher, I guess. I wonder what colour shirt would be, then?

Hmmm... thinking about it some more: I'm also a trained film-maker. Perhaps I need a selection of different coloured shirts...?

I think I'd find a job in the Engineering department more interesting out of the others, although I'd say I feel more suited for Science. I'd also prefer I kind of technical role over something more managerial.

This stuff always makes me laugh. You know what you'd be doing? Exactly what you're doing now. If you were going to be doing this shit, you'd currently be doing this shit. What, these careers aren't in existence now?
"Oh, I'd be captain of a ship."
Really? I don't think too many captains are off fanwanking on the internet right now. They're probably out commanding their ships, having spent decades in schooling and training and committing themselves to getting commissioned as officers and working their way up through the ranks.
There's a glorious life out there right now waiting for you to seize it by the balls. Carpe spherae, people.

If I lived in the Trek universe, I wouldn't join Starfleet, but if I had to, I'd be a science officer.

I've often wondered: what division/area/whatever would education be listed under? Ops? Sciences? Command?

EDIT: Just been looking at Memory Alpha: it seems that, although some appear to be in the Command section, the predominant colour for teachers seems to be blue...

I'd be sitting alone in my quarters pounding away at the keys of my computer fantasizing about being someone else.

As a combat veteran, I probably would have either risen through the Command ranks... or been killed by an exploding rock early in my redshirt career.:alienblush:

:guffaw:
The ultimate answer to this is Ensign Sue.

To whom is this advice addressed? People wasting more time here than you, Vice Admiral?
:techman:

I'm enough of a tech geek to think I'd probably be in Engineering, assuming I qualified for Starfleet training in the first place. I'm definitely not command material.

Really well, actually. I post here a couple of times a day, on average. Hardly sitting around waiting for life. I'm not the one playing the "what will you be when you grow up" game.

There's not a damn thing in the future depicted in Trek that isn't out there now for people to do. People should find that empowering. Instead, pointing it out engenders vitriol and fear of the responsibility of freedom and personal accountability. That's sad. I guess being responsible for one's own destiny is a heavy burden to some.

I'm reminded of the guy who changed his name to "James T. Kirk" to be more like his favorite starship captain - as if said captain would ever change his name to emulate fictional tv character.

Go ahead, slam me some more. It's just sad.

I daresay most of us who post here are responsible adults with jobs. We're just having a bit of fun exercising our imaginations. What's sad about that?

I don't think I could stand the competitiveness and the military structure of Starfleet. If I tried I would end up like Lt. Picard. But I would LOVE to have Guinan's job. In the world but not of it, so to speak.
