What is your pet peeve?

How about people that wait until they're already on the bus to look for their bus pass or money?

Or people who still write checks who wait for the cashier to ring up everything before they even take out their checkbook.

when my pet peeves on the rug :klingon:

Maybe so?

Actually....... i love "this". *ducks for cover*

A lot of my peeves have already been mentioned here. But the whole 'kewpon' vs 'koopon' one we talked about in another thread truly is one that makes me want to punch someone in the head. God i hate that!

ETA: People that make noise in the movie theater with their candy (rustling bags, etc). I hate that.

And people who eat crunchy foods with their mouths open (well, eating with your mouth open to begin with)....but people that pop a chip in their mouth and CRUNCH it .....i want to punch THEM in the mouth.

Ah....the menopause irritability is in full swing right now. Can you tell?

So you would prefer doubling or tripling your cable TV bill and the cost of your newspaper and other periodicals? You would also like to to pay several dollars a week for each station to able to watch TV through rabbit ears or a regular (direct from the local broadcaster) rooftop antenna?

As I ranted about ads earlier in the thread I'm taking this opportunity to clarify my thoughts a bit.

These days I only watch what comes through the air -and my license fee pays for that. If I wanted more TV I wouldn't mind paying for the things I want to watch; that way I'd get to choose between things people actually won't mind paying for - as opposed to the way it is now, where I can choose from the things advertisers want to pay for!

Also, I'd like to buy my groceries (and everything else) without having to pay for the ad agency fee and whatever people watch on TV...

My pet peeve is people that stand in front of the elevator doors and barge in the second the doors begin to part. Common courtesy is to let the people off first before getting on.

I worked in the same highrise building downtown for 15 years and it happened almost daily, and for some odd reason the worst offenders were the people that worked at the EPA (they had several floors in the building). Since we've moved out to the 'burbs and into a much smaller office building it hasn't happened at all in two years.

People in the left hand lane waiting to make their turn and they don't edge up. They just sit at the line and wait ...EDGE THE FUCK UP PEOPLE!

Yeah, and it's been mentioned but it deserves to be mentioned again. Driving while talking or texting. IT'S FUCKING ILLEGAL PEOPLE AND IT'S DANGEROUS TOO!!!!!

Gah!!!!

Kids that are brats. You know the ones that are always crying because mommy will not buy what they are wanting.

People who walk slow when you are behind them.

People who block the aisles in stores.

^If you're referring to U.S. driving, technically it's illegal to edge up past the white line.

Huh. According to my husband who just took another driver's class to have his insurance rates decreased, it is against the law in ny to NOT move up when you can! I'll have to confirm that with him later today.

You can edge up to the white line. What you can't do is cross into the crossing traffic lane while waiting for an opening to turn.

Although where I live, it's literally impossible to turn unless you do that.

Parents who have to get on the school bus with their kids and talk to the bus driver everyday thus holding up traffic.

People who make smacking noises when they eat. They sound like pigs

You mention a license fee. Aren't there a mix of commercial free channels financed by that license fee and corporate operated channels funded through advertisers? If all those were converted over to the commercial free format funded by your annual license fees wouldn't the annual license fees have to increase quite a bit? If you have multiple TVs, don't you already have to pay additional fees for each additional TV?

Why stop with broadcast ads? If ads were eliminated from periodicals you wouldn't have to recycle as much paper. The thinner magazines and newspapers would be easier to handle. Unfortunately subscription and news stand prices would increase quite a bit to meet all the expenses necessary to produce and distribute the periodicals.

Don't forget those fancy full color packages products come in. A simple black ink on white paper text only label would be less expensive to print than the full color labels with photographs of the enclosed product commonly used today. I imagine things in boxes with a cellophane window (common for dry pasta) would be a little less expensive if the window was eliminated. Then again, you can already buy the less expensive store brands which aren't funding the TV ads.

"when you can" does not preclude crossing the white line. Otherwise, why have that line? And it obviously follows that you cannot pull up far enough to block the pedestrian crossing zone.

Why yes, they would -but what I want isn't 'free' channels, but channels where I pay for the shows I watch.
The industry is against this degree of consumer control (because they're afraid of innovation -I guess; there's really no good argument for their pow otherwise).
No, Each household with one or more devices that can receive these programs (must) pay the license fee, whether the device is a TV-set, a computer or a 'smartphone'.

Your point being?

Are you suggesting those photo-manipulations that show the enclosed product as it could never be seen IRL and/or the 'serving suggestions' be banned -I'm ALL for that -brilliant idea :bolian:

People who put apostrophes where they aren't needed.

"Which of these photo's do you like the best?"

Stop it. Stop it now.

I checked with him again. He is insisting (the they told him in class) that you are expected by law (at least here in NY) to creep up past the line to make the left when it is clear (as long as you do that while the light is green.) The line of course is there for when the light is red and you come up to the intersection.

Honestly, i don't know what to believe. I haven't looked online yet, (frankly i don't care enough)....but anyway, the people that just sit there when they can creep up and wait for oncoming traffic to clear to make that turn drive me crazy! Of course, this could be moot if we're doing it wrong!

Logically, you shouldn't be able to creep past the line, since, once the line turns yellow (not red) you are supposed to stop if able. You shouldn't be past it at all when it turns red.

Think about it in the context of a straight cross, but in traffic. If it isn't possible to get all the way across the intersection, you aren't supposed to cross. You can't creep across the white line during a green light if you expect to get stuck in the on-coming traffic lane when it turns red.

This situation you are describing sounds like a good way to get stuck in the middle of traffic if the light changes before you can make your left. I find it weird that traffic school would recommend driving behavior that could lead to an accident.

Of course, in that situation, if I can see that traffic is going to clear before the light changes, I do creep up.
