So you would prefer doubling or tripling your cable TV bill and the cost of your newspaper and other periodicals? You would also like to to pay several dollars a week for each station to able to watch TV through rabbit ears or a regular (direct from the local broadcaster) rooftop antenna? All advertising
^If you're referring to U.S. driving, technically it's illegal to edge up past the white line.
You mention a license fee. Aren't there a mix of commercial free channels financed by that license fee and corporate operated channels funded through advertisers? If all those were converted over to the commercial free format funded by your annual license fees wouldn't the annual license fees have to increase quite a bit? If you have multiple TVs, don't you already have to pay additional fees for each additional TV?So you would prefer doubling or tripling your cable TV bill and the cost of your newspaper and other periodicals? As I ranted about ads earlier in the thread I'm taking this opportunity to clarify my thoughts a bit.
These days I only watch what comes through the air -and my license fee pays for that. If I wanted more TV I wouldn't mind paying for the things I want to watch; that way I'd get to choose between things people actually won't mind paying for - as opposed to the way it is now, where I can choose from the things advertisers want to pay for!
Also, I'd like to buy my groceries (and everything else) without having to pay for the ad agency fee and whatever people watch on TV...

Huh. According to my husband who just took another driver's class to have his insurance rates decreased, it is against the law in ny to NOT move up when you can! I'll have to confirm that with him later today.

Your point being? Why stop with broadcast ads? If ads were eliminated from periodicals you wouldn't have to recycle as much paper. The thinner magazines and newspapers would be easier to handle. Unfortunately subscription and news stand prices would increase quite a bit to meet all the expenses necessary to produce and distribute the periodicals.
[My emphasis]Don't forget those fancy full color packages products come in. A simple black ink on white paper text only label would be less expensive to print than the full color labels with photographs of the enclosed product commonly used today. I imagine things in boxes with a cellophane window (common for dry pasta) would be a little less expensive if the window was eliminated. Then again, you can already buy the less expensive store brands which aren't funding the TV ads.

"when you can" does not preclude crossing the white line. Otherwise, why have that line? And it obviously follows that you cannot pull up far enough to block the pedestrian crossing zone.
I checked with him again. He is insisting (the they told him in class) that you are expected by law (at least here in NY) to creep up past the line to make the left when it is clear (as long as you do that while the light is green.) The line of course is there for when the light is red and you come up to the intersection.
Honestly, i don't know what to believe. I haven't looked online yet, (frankly i don't care enough)....but anyway, the people that just sit there when they can creep up and wait for oncoming traffic to clear to make that turn drive me crazy! Of course, this could be moot if we're doing it wrong!![]()
