What is your perceived demand for Nintendo 3DS

I saw some units on sale as well at best buy. I think you're right, they probably ramped up production. I assume they saw what happened with the Wii and figured they're better off meeting demand rather than let people buy them and sell them on eBay for insane prices. It's more money in nintendos pocket this way

I don't think it'll flop, but I don't think it'll be gang busters either - it's first weekend was pretty dismal so far it seems.

yeah, at Walmart we had 3 of each color on the shelf yesterday . . . I don't think anyone bought any yet

Yeah the $250 price tag is a joke. For $50 more I would get the iPod Touch that does a hell of a lot more, and has free / cheap games.

Looks like Nintendo is claiming that it is it's fastest selling console.

Nintendo today said that "US day-one sales numbers for Nintendo 3DS were the highest of any Nintendo handheld system in our history." The company did not offer up specific numbers, promising sales figures alongside NPD numbers on April 14. However, the statement means the three-dimensional handheld outsold the Game Boy Advance, the original DS, the DSi, and the DSi XL during their first 24 hours on the market.

How can something that sold hundreds of thousands of copies in Japan (Which is still a mess from the quake and their own government's stupidity) be a flop? Oh only in Sony fanboys' heads.

The last thing I bought the day it came out was the GBA because it was "only" $100, and I needed to update my 1991-92 old box GB. My mom went to Walmart, they asked if she had a pre-order, nope, and then asked what color, I got the thing for $96 after tax because they had it for a weird price. Took my mom 5 minutes.

But with the earthquake and everything, maybe Nintendo can't make enough?

I was kidding, it's too early to tell whether or not the 3DS is a flop. Just poking fun at the people who so desperately want it to fail because they hate 3D, hate Nintendo, or both.

Yeah, it's not going to flop - it's foolish to think Nintendo isn't going to profit from this. I just think they'll be more profitable down the line a bit especially after the price comes down a bit.

Nintendos reasoning behind this is sound. People paid ridiculous amounts of cash for the Wii when it first came out. Nintendo figures they should profit from the gouging, not eBayers. They're probably right

Yeah, but it's not as scarce as the Wii - I've seen some on the shelf in every store I've been in that I cared to notice. Which says it's probably not flying off the shelves as fast as Nintendo thinks or they've produced a lot more and decided not to create a false shortage to increase demand. I also don't think the fact that it's selling more on it's first day is really telling since none of the other handhelds were flying off shelves on their release days either. Their portable sales tend to be steady over long periods rather than all in big bursts.

Which is exactly my point. Why produce a false shortage if it doesn't help them. There's no real need to sell out. All a shortage really does is benefit people who try to sell the consoles on ebay.
