What is your honest opinion of Enterprise?

I compared ratings to other ST series seasons to ENT season 4, and its right up there...possibly 3rd EVER for ST.

Might want to recheck those figures.

I watched it all the way through in first run and loved it.

I honestly felt it a great prequel chapter to the TV series line, it had flaws but all Trek does. Especially when a franchise has spanned going on 50 years.

TNG is by far my favorite Trek but for whatever reason I find myself more compelled to buy the ENT dvd sets.

The ratings decline speaks volumes of the lack of quality in the episodes, not "franchise fatigue." If that was the case, it would have taken more than five years to go away.

BS - were that the case, ST:TNG wouldn't have made it past it's first season.

It's all relative.

People stuck out with TNG because it was the first Trek on the air in a very long time. Not so with the latter series.

I would've been fine with the theme song if they'd dumped it completely in the third season (when it was no longer thematically appropriate) and replaced it with this, instead of remixing it with acoustic guitars.

While at first I wasn't sure about the theme song, I soon grew to like it. I only began to dislike it when it was remixed in season 3.

I think the biggest irritant with the theme song is that it wasn't original! It had already been featured in the movie "Patch Adams", performed by Rod Stewart, and had been knocking around the country charts by an artist whose name escapes me at the moment. In fact, all Russell Watson is doing in his rendition is doing a very good imitation of Rod Stewart.

The use of an off-the-shelf song just sent the signal right off the bat that this was going to be an off-the-shelf show, which was only confirmed by the constant reuse of concepts and plot devices from TNG and VOY.

I guess it helped for me not having ever heard it before Enterprise, but it's a big point.

I never liked that theme because of the cheesy version over the end credits, but hearing it like that over the opening credits, it almost seems like the song was originally written for it. It fits very nicely.

I suspected as much. Considering how good it sounds, why did they go with a generic soft rock song instead? Not that I have a problem with the Faith of the Heart version, but why?

To me, that instrumental theme just doesn't sound right to me, though, and it definitely doesn't go with the visuals, which were edited to fit the song that actually was used.

Because, for once in their life, they were trying a different approach.
I didn't like it myself, but I commend them for giving it a go. To me, the orchestrated theme songs of every series makes them timeless. By simply using someone else's song I think Enterprise becomes dated. Does that make any sense at all? That's how I see it, at least.

Additionally, I roll my eyes at "phase pistols" and "hull plating offline!". If you're going to treat them like phasers and shields, just call them that.

This is so true.

Though I'd prefer it if they just had traditional firearms, but again, it's just a little irksome.

Somehow the writers forgot that landing parties carried "hand lasers" in The Cage, and this was confirmed on-screen in The Menagerie.

Oh, there were so many things that made the show seem like a lead-in to TNG, instead of into TOS. I only ever really got into Azati Prime and In a Mirror, Darkly.

However, in fairness, I did think the Xindi-Insectoids and Xindi-Aquatics raised the bar in significant and interesting ways for the physical appearance of Star Trek aliens.

That makes perfect sense. By using a contemporary song, they're dating it to this period in history. Contemporary music will always date a show, but orchestral music has been around for centuries. And even though the composition style still varies, the orchestral sound itself is more timeless.

Might want to recheck those figures.

:lol:I believe I left out a word. I meant MY ratings. When I looked back at my database and avg it out, its clear that the ENT stands up really well with the others shows. I wouldn't have assumed that before looking at them collectively.

As for ratings...its great to have a popular show but ratings don't really equate to quality by themselves.

Season 4 alone for me ranks as one of the best ST seasons ever.
