what is your favorite Voyager episode ? And why ?

I havent been posting on this BBS since Voyager ended its series, which to my amazement was 2001. Thought I would start this thread to remind myself why this series was once so important to me and share what episode comes to mind when I think back on Voyager.

The Thaw really spooky episode with the Clown & Cirque de Soleil ? if I remember right

Tuvix for the moral and philosophical questions raised

and many others

For me it's probably a tie between Scorpion, Part I and Good Shepherd.

Scorpion, Part I was just amazing from beginning to end, and had a more satisfying conclusion in Scorpion, Part II than The Best of Both Worlds had. Also, they managed to introduce a villian that was more powerful and scary than the Borg, but where able to still keep the Borg themselves scary.

Good Shepherd was great because it handled the whole "lower decks characters" storyline much better than TNG's Lower Decks. I actually liked the three guest characters. That was a rarity for me on Voyager.

My favorite episodes of Voyager are "Basics" as well as "Scorpion" not only for the two-part cliffhangers, but also for the storylines. I remember about "Basics" that I spent that whole summer wondering and waiting to see if the Kazons would give back control of Voyager over to the crew again. It was a definite nail biter for me and part two really had me going as well.
For Scorpion, the first part was absolutely superb. I may have to bring my Voyager DVD out again and watch it because I haven't seen Voyager in about three years or more.

It would tough to choose just one, but off the top of my head I'll name 5 serious candidates...

Living Witness - The Doctor is a favorite Trek character of mine, and I loved this episode focusing on him in particular. I loved how it took place after the Voyager crew was long dead and gone, and he had to be their defender and set the record straight. I also loved seeing the Voyager crew's fictional evil counterparts. Pretty much loved everything about this ep.

Message in a Bottle - Again with The Doctor. His chemistry with the Holo-Dick (Andy Dick) was fun comic relief while they were in a serious situation, and The U.S.S. Prometheus was badass to say the least. I just found it to be a really fun episode.

Tuvix - You mentioned this one. Tom Wright, who played the mixture of Tuvok and Neelix, did a fantastic job in my opinion. I really cared about this character, and sympathized with his plight. Wondering how Janeway could make that decision, then seeing the look on her face as she left sick bay after it was done, was priceless, and very moving. This episode reminds me of Enterprise's Similitude, and both are fantastic in their own right.

The Thaw - You mentioned this one as well, so you know what I'm talking about. Michael Mckean was awesome The Clown. In my opinion, very reminiscent of classic Trek.

Investigations - I tend to like Tom Paris episodes. It seems many Trek fans aren't huge Paris fans, but I think I like him because I think I would be a lot like him - kind of the rebel that wants to go along to the beat of his own drummer, and has a hard time dealing with the structured lifestyle of being a Starfleet officer. All of that plays into this story, making the story believable, only to have a nice twist thrown in that I never saw coming. I thought this episode was cleverly done, and I loved it.

I agree with eps mentioned by the previous posters as well.

"Cold Fire" is my favorite.

Spooky and exciting with Kes as the main character.

Scorpion is what I like to think of as Voyager's turning point from the weaker early seasons to a stronger and more consistant series. Introducing us to the Borg as Voyager's new recurring enemy, and replacing Kes with Seven of Nine, Seska and the Kazon are but a distant memory. Great story and production values aswell.

Latent Image. I really like the concept at the heart of it and it was executed really well, especially the Doctor working out what's really going on and his breakdown in the mess.

A tie between Message in a Bottle and Pathfinder. I love Reg Barclay and his appearance alone makes the latter a good episode. There are other episodes with him in a prominent role, but this one is the best. Message in a Bottle is funny and it has Romulans in it. I love the interaction between the two EMHs. The other episodes in my Top 10 are mostly the ones centering on the Doctor or Reg Barclay.

"Barge of the Dead".

It gives me a generous helpings of my fav things in Voyager.

Awesome amounts of B'Elanna, generous servings of Chakotay/Torres, humourous and bittersweet slices of Torres/Paris, a Bizzaro Counselor Tuvok, an EMH singing Klingon drinking songs and a scornful Neelix as a grethor guide.

Not to mention, it had MIRAL!

And of course, finally, an end to the rift between B'Elanna and Janeway.

It started in "Night"/"Extreme Risk", peaked in "Nothing Human", still smouldered in "Juggernaut" and ended in "Barge of the Dead" when she went from jumping into Miral's arms to jumping into Janeway's. It also led B'Elanna to utter my fav line in Unimatrix Zero.

TORRES: Tactical directive thirty six A.
PARIS: There is no directive thirty six A.
TORRES: There is now.

My favorite episodes of Voyager are "Basics" as well as "Scorpion" not only for the two-part cliffhangers, but also for the storylines.

"Basics" has always been my favorite two-parter mainly because it proves you can tell a good Voyager story without resorting to kewl explosions, etc.

However, my absolute favorite episode is "Resistance" for a number of reasons:

1) The ship is low on something which makes total sense considering the show's premise.

2) They get off the ship.

3) Joel Gray's performance: You can literally feel his pain.

4) Social relevance in the finest Trek tradition

5) No borg or time travel: Two of the most seriously overused plot devices in the show. It's nice to see a good episode without them.

"Barge of the Dead".

So far, to me one of the most interesting things I'm finding about these forums is how people love the episodes that I hate.

Barge of the Dead is one of those episodes that had a really cool title that made me assume it would be good, but then it really wasn't (i.e. The Haunting of Deck Twelve, 11:59, and Death Wish).

I'm currently on season 6, only 2 eps away from Barge of the Dead. I'm going to give it another serious looking at. Maybe I've been in a bad mood or something when I've watched it before.

"Barge of the Dead" (like "Dark Frontier") is interesting to me not just for the reasons stated above, but because of the technique the writer used to tie Janeway with the "other" female protagonist. (Or, in DF's case, the Female villian).

Specifically, I liked the way Janeway mimicked Miral, and the way Miral mimicked Janeway in this ep. Its effect in "Barge of the Dead" is to strengthen the two women's relationship with B'Elanna, unlike in "Dark Frontier" where it served as an obvious competition between Janeway and the Queen over Seven.

Give it another try, but remember, its not a big deal if we don't all like the same things. ;-)

"Scorpion" is Voyager's finest hour. Period.

However, I also enjoyed "Counterpoint" if only for the last fifteen minutes.

It's a toss up between

Deadlock
THAW

I'm deadlock was the most unexpected and intresting concep trek had produced in a while couple with the duality situation of are you really you if you're a copy...I love that.

Then Thaw was just the best episode with no action that you could get and it was because of Michael Kean's brilliant performance and the masterful Janeway ending.

Scorpion I'd probably have to go with for Voyager at its absolute best. Everyone turns in an incredible performance (even Chakotay, much to my amazement), you have an interesting conflict with no clear right/wrong decision, everyone gets something to do, and we have some repercussions down the line for these events (not just Seven in general, but also Hope and Fear).

Scorpion followed by Caretaker.

Scorpion just was a really compelling two-parter and in my opinion VOY's best episode. Menosky and Braga were at their best here and the way they got the Borg onto the show was a stroke of brilliance. Creepy and foreboding, exciting, lots of attention to detail, a nice sense of unpredictability and it came at a time when my interest in VOY had pretty much had me considering dropping the show altogether.

The second part isn't as solid as part I but I did think adding a Borg character reinvigorated the show to a degree.

Caretaker is my favorite Trek pilot. It did a great job introducing the cast, was a fun action adventure with a nice bit of thought-provoking material.

I can't really pick just one episode that is head and shoulders above the rest. So I'll have to go with a select some good ones.

Hmm... well, for seasons 1-4 that I've just rewatched (can't remember the later episodes well enough to take them into account yet), I'd have to go with (in chronological order):
1) Twisted. Kinda liked it. Perhaps not all that strong an episode in some ways, but watching people get lost all around the ship was funny enough to make it a good episode for me.
2) Meld/Basics. Lon Suder is an interesting, conflicted character. His eventual redemption is perhaps a bit predictable, but a good ending for the story nonetheless.
3) Remember. The story, while good on its own, is also told in an interesting way.
4) Real Life. Actually for a large part the episode is even irritating, especially the "perfect" family in the start wants to make me poke my eyes and ears out. But the ending is very strong, easily enough so to make it a good episode.
5) Worst Case Scenario. Seska's revenge from beyond the grave is nice stuff mostly.
6) Scorpion. An interesting two-parter. I only wish that Species 8472 wasn't portrayed as SO overpowering compared to the Borg. The cubes should've been more than cardboard boxes with a target icon on them. Reminds me of Star Trek Online in that regard.
7) Year of Hell. I'm usually not one for episodes that mess around with time, but overall I found this one quite enjoyable.
8) Living Witness. Now, whatever happened to the doctor's backup in his quest to return to earth... I'll never know :(

Probably missed a few, but I suppose this list is too long as it is ;)

On a side note, I noticed someone liked "The Thaw". Yuck. It has to be be one of my least favorite episodes. Why is it that in so many series there seems to be an episode when there's supposed to be something weird and terrifying, it has to have something to do with stupidly colored places with retarded clowns and other such characters? :(

I was one of those people. I didn't just like it, I loved it. :bolian:

No matter how much you hate something, there's likely someone out there who loves it. Personally, I can't comprehend how anyone could enjoy the taste of black licorice. :shifty:

Lenny of Lenny and Squiggy as an evil clown. *shudder*

I have to list several as well that are all so high up on my list I can't separate them.

Living Witness: Closest thing to a Voyager Mirror Universe episode that we ever got, and Mirror Mirror is my all time favorite Trek Episode EVAH.

Tinker, Tenor, Doctor, Spy: "Tuvok I understand, you are a Vulcan man, and you have been without, for seven years... about." Need I say more? Painting 7 in the nude, grabbing the Captain's ass, breaking Torres' heart, the ECH, the Photonic Cannon! Aah, such a good episode.

Year of Hell: One of the best Time Manipulation stories Trek has ever done.

In the Blink of an Eye: Another epic, in my opinion. Getting to see the development of a culture and Voyager's effect on it. "The fire fruit is for the New God!" Great stuff.

Equinox: Do I need to explain why?

Counterpoint: Great scenario, great performances. always sticks out in my mind as one of the highlights of Voyager.
