Adventures in outer space.
I think it's a gross exaggeration to say the other series were "about" something more than that. Maybe DS9, but even that's a stretch.
^^^This. Probably applies to all future Star Trek shows too.

As I would expect.
the cat.Michael Burnham's extended adopted family on adventures in space.
Mum, adopted Mum, dead mentor Mum, mirror universe adopted Mum, Dad, Adopted Dad, Adopted brother, half-Klingon boyfriend, magic future boyfriend and mirror universe twin. Did I miss anyone?
Nailed it. Once Fuller left, it became a true prequel, exploring what led to Spock and Pike on the E. They said as much early on. It wasn't as I had hoped, merely a fun show set in the pre-TOS era.
Much of what it does is a callback/recapitulation (Pike, mirror u, Guardian, Spock's sister or even go back to S1 and exploring Klingons; or a deconstruction/rejection: we do season-long arcs, Burnham is not a Captain, etc.
Now we have a season-long arc about . . . the federation, Gene Coon intellectual property ca. 1967.
It's a show about Star Trek. Good call.
Especially this Star Trek!Which works nice, because I like Star Trek!

Just like literally every Star Trek production since TOS season 3.It varies.Usually about 40 minutes.
Or...
It's about exploiting IP and trademarks CBS owns.
Based on the reactions I've seen, Discovery is about making callbacks to previous Trek shows which is heresy because they should be creating their own path, and it's also about creating their own path which is heresy because they should be making better use of the lore.
