Part of the problem with Disco's Klingon language soliloquies is that they're too damned long and involved. In the pilot, Tacoma's scenes contain way too much content for stuff that the audience has to read on the screen while watching events happening.Dumb question time-are subtitles that bad?
Just a few months earlier prior to Disco's premiere, Fear the Walking Dead did an episode in which with the exception of one scene, all the dialogue was in Spanish. There, however, the writers were aware of the fact they were writing for an audience predominantly of people who didn't speak Spanish and intentionally left the dialogue as simple as possible so that the subtitles wouldn't bee too much of a distraction and take away from what was transpiring on screen. That is a much better approach to how Disco did its Klingon scenes, which seem to be written under the belief that the audience is fluent in the Klingon language.
Although I've noticed as the season progresses they've been contriving more and more reasons to have the Klingons speaking English, making me wonder if the Klingon language fetish was just one of Fuller's ideas that the other writers are more than happy to dispose of.
