What is it?

I got this idea after my last post in the 'latest purchase' thread.

In Australia we have a show called The Collectors (I am not sure if other countries have their own versions on this show. In one segment on The Collectors a mystery object is shown and the panel has to try and decide what it is used for.

I thought it might be interesting to have own such segment. People can post a picture of an object. It could be a craft tool, something used in cooking, an occupational tool, scientific equipment, a toy etc. Maybe though this we can learn something useful or interesting

My first object (which I think will be quite easy) is

They can come without the hole, or they can come with two holes i.e a second hole in the handle. Some of them don't have a handle.

You can post an object at any time even if previous objects are not identified.

It's a lucet. Used for making cords, particularly sturdy ones, like the ones for corsets. Finally, all my time at the Renaissance Fair has paid off. Well, that and the name of the item in is your picture's id.

Don't have one to post. Someone else have a go.

Yes, it has been about 20 years since I used a lucet and back then I only used it to make shoelaces. I learnt to use one when I was a member of the Norse Society and we used to practice old Viking skills etc. Bones lucets have been found in Viking graves.

I have no idea what the thing in think's photo is.

I am divided on whether to suggest it is some sort of scientific instrument or whether to say it is some sort of coffee-maker.

I am betting we can handle multiple of objects at once and endless commentary in this thread :)

No to both.

Consider its shape. That won't get you directly to the answer, but would get you in the right area, at least

The thing look vaguely familar. I am certain I have seen a photo of it before but I just can't think of where.

Little forks to get crab meat out of the shell?

A new type of fish hook?
Bowling pin for sharks that like to bowl?

I like the bowling pin idea a LOT.

But no. To get you in the right ballpark, here's a photo of its much more famous and older cousin. It does something different, but you may be able to guess what the one I posted does if you recognise this thing:
