What is CURRENTLY Being Done...?

Have to be frank here, i think theres more chance of them using shatner as kirk again in the next movie than Enterprise coming back.

I just hope they release some new novels soon, even that has dried up badly.

Somewhat important since most the facts gleaned from the Vega Con will frankly be music to many an Enterprise fan's ear...

http://trekmovie.com/2009/08/10/vegascon09-braga-coto-talk-enterprise-season-5-star-trek-2009-more

Coto wanted to revisit the Mirror Universe on a regular basis with four or five episodes spread through the season as a "mini-series within a series." Mike Sussman and Coto had discussed places to go with it and it was "big regret" not getting chance
The two main things they wanted to do with S5 was the "origins of the Federation" and the "begin whispers of the Romulan War", and tying those two together
No other major villains were planned to be introduced, the Romulans were going to be the big villain, but would have new ones within new ‘mini-arcs’
Rick and Brannon thought Future Guy was "probably going to be a Romulan" and would tie into the Romulan War with a future Romulan trying to "instigate" things
They wanted to make Shran a regular character on the bridge of the NX-01 as an "auxiliary or an advisor…get Jeffrey [Combs] Somehow"

Okay so there's much we knew or theorised would've happened in Season 5 anyway. It's this above all else that keeps me awake at night... knowing my favourite Trek series had all this yet to come. Pretty much amounts to my idea of heaven, at least as far as this longstanding Star Trek fan is concerned.

As a fan it does make me (us, we) angry with all the lost opportunity. All the right ingredients were there, the chef just screwed it up.

There's one coming in October: The Romulan War in trade paperback. We've had one ENT novel a year since 2005, plus some not-quite-ENT stories set in the alternate universe.

Cast availability is not the issue in bringing the show back. Making a sci-fi TV show is expensive, especially if there are no standing sets. Few network or cable executives would be willing to greenlight a continuation of a cancelled series, especially when they could have a new series with no negative baggage attached to it.

Isn't Ms. Park and Mr. Bakula in TV series this year? I doubt you could get them back for a new series but maybe the Direct to DVD route. I think Direct to DVD would be the better way to go since it wouldn't interfere with any new movies coming out and only people that are fans or have any interest in Enterprise would buy the DVD's so you wouldn't have people saying "why should I pay to see Trek if I can watch it on TV for free".

If you could get the old viewers of Enterprise to buy the DVD's CBS could make a nice bit of money. If I recall correctly there were at least 2.8 million viewers weekly for Enterprise (source: Wiki). Times that by the profit they could make on a $15 or $20 two hour DVD and you have to wonder does someone at Paramount/CBS hate Enterprise that much to not make that money?

I purchased all of the Babylon 5 and Stargate SG1 Direct to DVD stories and I would purchase Trek Direct to DVD stories the week they were released.

That's my understanding of it, sadly, yes. :(
ENT brought many things to Trek, but it did not bring home the bacon.

Horses for courses, really. TNG and DS9 were syndicated to countless non-Paramount owned stations and therefore seen in more homes. Besides being given a seemingly permanent home on SyFy, Enterprise was only granted one measly year in syndication for 2005-06... consisting of Broken Bow, Regeneration, Carbon Creek and all of Season 4. A stopgap measure, to tide stations over while CBS were busy working to get The Original Series Remastered rolled out in High Def. They never had any plans to take all whole four seasons nationwide, if you ask me.

Probably should've posted this when it was current...

http://trekmovie.com/about/index/pollsarchive/

A poll conducted over Trekmovie.com around the time of VegaCon coverage just over a week ago.

Which would you want more? Total Votes: 1198

Start Date: August 10, 2009 @ 9:09 pm
End Date: August 16, 2009 @ 4:33pm

ORIGINAL SERIES Season 4 (32%)387 votes
NEXT GENERATION Season 8 (13%)161 votes
DEEP SPACE NINE Season 8 (16%)191 votes
VOYAGER Season 8 (4%)44 votes
ENTERPRISE Season 5 (35%)415 Votes

The show did quite well in relatively unfriendly territory. Pipping the iconic Original to the post by a nose. Shame AOL didn't consider that newsworthy, as they did this minority editorial.

That's heartening, for those of us who think Ent deserved a 7-year run like all the other shows. It may not have been financially feasible (UPN, gaaaa), but still.

Pocket Books kept the Strange New Worlds series going for years after it stopped making money, for the sake of the fans and the writers. Props to 'em for that.

Looking the number of votes, it certainly brought fans out in force. The only turnout close to that involvement was ages back, a poll asking when fans thought Star Trek XII would be released... Summer 2011 topped opinion.

Despite our vocal reputation, I can't take any credit for this... I was too slow on the uptake, by the time I posted about it over at IMDb and Trekunited... the poll was all but over. The majority of voting occured from the outset putting ENT in an early lead, stirring sleeping giants to be more proactive for other series.

Except for Voyager, poor thing. A sad testament to the way TPTB messed with the wonderful potential of that series and lowered expectations to zero by the end. (Ohhh, don't get me started. ;) )
