What if? .....Would you like to be paid in gum?

Heh, there's this commercial airing lately (by Trident Gum i believe) that has a babysitter being asked if she would like to be paid in gum.

That got me thinking .... let's say you win the lotto and invest it wisely so that you can live more than comfortably without a paycheck. But you want to continue working (not necessarily in your current job)...just for the sheer pleasure of working.

Since you don't need the money, is there anything you WOULD work for.... other than money?

If I could get paid with something other than money, I would probably have to go with food. Meals. All the time. It's not that I hate cooking; it's that I hate having to cook all the frickin time. When I get home from work at 1am, the last thing I want to do is cook dinner. It would be awesome to have a personal chef with a meal already waiting for me.

That's a good one. One i would definitely consider. I hate going to the stupormarket and planning what to make and then having to make it. (I DO hate cooking). I like that choice a lot.

I was thinking i'd like to be paid in clothing. Nice clothing that fits and i wouldn't have to go to the store, walk around, price compare, TRY ON (the worst part of clothing shopping imo), pay for, go home, try on again, realize it looks like shit on me, return it to the store, and go through the process all over again.

Yes, definitely. I'd like to be paid in clothing that fits and looks good.

Meals is a good one yeah, I hate cooking, I'd work for good fresh prepared meals.

I'd work for free electronics, like some real nice gear, and then I'd sell it on eBay and make even more money :D

Beyond things though i'd work for friendship and companionship, to have fellowship with my fellow man and women during and after work

So, I have all the money I need. I can't think of anything I would work for that I couldn't just go out and buy instead. Recognition, maybe? Or volunteer work, helping people or animals. I don't think I'd be a lazy bum, but why would I work for something other than money if money could buy that thing for me. To avoid having to buy it? I'd just pay someone else to buy it. ;)

I assume the test here is that we wouldn't work for free, as in doing charitable work.

I would want to be paid in housework and yard work. (Exceptions: I'll do my own laundry and my own cooking.)

Good question and my bad. No, charity work not included. Just a regular job (and again, doesn't have to be the one you have now)....what will you work for?

Yard work is a good one. (LOL i'm with you on doing the laundry. I hate doing it, but no one else is getting near my dirty clothes!!)

Travel or clothes. Those are probably the two things that would entice me the most.

Of course, if I had enough money to not work anymore, I'd be able to buy those things for myself, so I'd probably work for a charity, simply because I wanted to.

I'll vote for housework, yard work and meals. I sometimes like doing those things, but I'd gladly trade my web design services or awesome receptionist skills for the times I don't want to do them. Also, I like being recognized for how awesome I am as a designer, and I like the "getting out of the house and socializing with other human beings in my office" part of office work, so that would also make work worth it.

If I were rich, I'd continue to work at writing, art, photography et cetera. I wouldn't worry about being paid at all. In fact, I could invest in some decent advertising to spread the word for a change. :rommie:

I'd work to help out a friend or family member in need of assistance. I'd work for food or hosehold items, and give them to someone in need.

Even if I won the lotto, I'd probably keep the little less than part time job I have -- just to keep some kind of activity and daily schedule. One thing is for certain -- no sitting on my ass all day if I have cash and can acomplish things I can't now, being cash stripped.

Heck, I'd work for Easter candy and plastic Easter eggs, then hold a big Easter Egg Hunt at a local park.

I wonder ... if any MODs here suddenly got rich, would they tell everybody to screw off, permaban random people and T'Bonz, then laugh all night long. :D

Well, the way I see it, laundry is actually done by machines. It's not like I'd have to take it down to the river and beat it on a rock with a stick.

Unless you ever work for an Amish family. They probably name their rocks.

Meals, housework, yardwork, gasoline, vehicular maintenance.

Basically, pay me by doing the things that either I hate doing or are a PITA anyway.
