What if World War 3 never happened?

I'm curious as to what people think the Trekverse would be like if WW3 never happened on Earth. I'm also wondering what Cochrane and Lily were doing during around the time of the conflict.

First Contact still would've happened. The Vulcans were already interested in Earth, per "Carbon Creek". Without World War III, we would've started colonizing the Solar System earlier. Our telescopes would get better and better.

So, maybe another fifty years and the Vulcans would have still had to identify themselves. But, first contact may have come earlier if Cochrance develops warp sooner, or maybe without the horrors of war, warp drive doesn't come for centuries.

Who knows?

In TOS ww3 seemed to be Khan related and in the 90s, killing 30m people. After that technology moved on quickly - nomad, sleeper ships, etc, and a global nuclear conflict in the 2050s never occurred.

Scotty introducing transparent aluminium in 1986, changed that, and rather than ww3 in the 90s the eugenics wars were a smaller affair. Ww3 then referred only to a global conflict 60 years later and killed 20 times as many people. Cochrane inventing warp drive was a fixed point in time that wouldn't change, but the circumstances would.

If there hadn't been a global war in the 1990s or the 2050s, the tensions would still be there, it would have been later - in the 2080s for example, and possibly included subspace weapons.

Working the Warp drive, listening to rock and roll and drinking.
