What if Voyager was Enterprise

I think if a smaller ship without any luxuries like a holodeck or mess hall like the Defiant, the crew would have gone nuts before 7 years. Such cramped quarters and stuff.

Can we really call the Voyager crew sane, though?

I think the Defiant would have just made more stopovers on planets/outposts. I always hated the Holodeck on Voyager - it makes no sense to have it running when there's limited power, the whole "it runs on a different power source" is complete bollocks!

^Yeah. The fully functioning holodeck on VOY was kinda lame. It led to a lot of TNG retread 'holodeck breaks down' stories. They should have set Voyager on a small ship like the Defiant, with no luxuries, etc. Would have forced them to be more creative with the stories.

Regardless of the ship, the carpets would have been clean and the bridge would be shining in the last episode.

^ Well we know from TNG that starships clean themselves so I'd understand that - it's the outside of the ship that should be totalled.

The Defiant reminds me of a submarine. Can you imaging serving on a sub for 7 years? Yes, I think the crew would go nuts.

If the premise of VOY had been played out on TNG, then we would've had seasons 8-14. I think it would've been interesting to have Picard and Beverly marry at the beginning of S8 and Data promoted to full commander and made XO of some other ship. The three would leave the ship before it headed out on its mission to capture the Maquis. Will would be promoted to captain with Geordi getting promoted to OPS officer/2nd officer and Deanna would remain on as counselor. Commander Shelby would be the XO who is killed off right away along with a new CMO. Former Maquis member Nick Locarno (RDM but not as Tom Paris) would be 'hired on' by Riker to act as Conn officer. Otherwise, captured Maquis members would be assigned as XO, CMO, Chief of Engineering, etc.
