What if the Soviets *Did* Make a "Star Trek"

There would be a naive American ensign who claims his country did everything first -- but the joke's on him, comrades, because Mother Russia beat him to everything.

What would the Borg become? In their current form, they could be seen as a kind of communism taken too far ...

So would they become a utopian society, or would they become a dire warning about a Queen ruthlessly exploiting her slaves?

Or they evolve into something like The Culture.

In fact what would the Culture think of Borg or do to them.

Again guys, I'm just not sure the idea of advanced capitalist alien races would make it past the Soviet censors.

If you look at the most common/popular Soviet-era science fiction novels and movies, there was a distinct absence of advanced malevolent alien races - particularly capitalist ones. This is because a central tenant of Marxism is that all societies go though historic stages, and that capitalism inevitably gives way to socialism, then true communism (which is basically left anarchism). Soviet science fiction often satirized capitalism (and even elements of its own political structure) through allegory, but it usually did so through less-advanced alien races, post-apocalyptic settings, or near-future settings which take place when Earth's geopolitics are similar to today.

I could see some analogue of the Klingons existing - if it made more explicit what was hinted about in Trek - that they were a race which was essentially handed technology from elsewhere, essentially jumping right from late feudal into the interstellar age. But I think in general a Soviet series would focus much more on TOS staples like contact with "primitive" races, time travel, godlike energy beings, and various anomalies and more impersonal threats.
