I always thought there werew three major beliefs of time travel without going into parrallel world theory.
Number one is pretty much the butterfly effect, you do anything and I mean anything in the past and the whole universe will change.
Number two is that the past is unchangeable, you go back in time to kill your own grandfather perhaps and you will be nocked down and killed by a truck as soon as you arrive. All pre-destination paradoxs fall into this one as well.
Number three is that time will sort it self out over time, so to speak. Yes you will kill Hitler say but somebody else will rise to power and do pretty much the same thing, a few dates a will be off a few facts and figures will be out but nothing major.
I never liked yours because it always seemed easier to me to travel to a parallel world running x amount of years behind ours, which after reading your post properly is what your saying.
