What if question for Atlantis pilot?

Crewman47

I've been thinking of a what if scenario using a couple of situations from the early part of Atlantis.

Anyway, it was discovered that the first time the Atlantis expedition discovered the city, they ran into some problems and they all died except Weir who unexpectedly travelled back in time to the time of the Ancients. Well what if, in this first time, the Ancients had initially designed a failsafe to begin with and left a small stockpile of ZPM's so that when the Atlantis team come in there now have some ZPM's, Puddle Jumpers, Drones, a time travelling Puddle Jumper, access to the whole city and information and the ability to travel back to Earth. Because of this no reason to travel to the Athosians planet and wake up the Wraith prematurely.

How would have events have turned out after this scenario other than two way travel between Earth and Atlantis allowing Ancient tech to be studied by both sides.

My main problem with the series has always been that felt like they had to stay in the Pegasus galaxy. They were never trying to work on getting Atlantis back to Earth. If your scenario played out, I would hope that they would have simply flown Atlantis back to Earth. Now that they know about the Pegasus galaxy, they could always fly there and do reconnaissance and look for other Ancient tech. But their main goal should have been to get Atlantis, this very valuable piece of ancient technology, back home to Earth so they can study it there and protect it.

Well they did get Atlantis back to Earth in the series finale.

Eventually they would have met with the Athosians because exploring the galaxy is something they would have done anyway regardless of the status of the city. The immediate danger of the city flooding just expedited it. Now, whether all the pieces would still be in place to wake up the Wraith is a whole other issue. Everyone in the galaxy knew about the Wraith so it was only a matter of time before they were somewhere during a culling and they got mixed up with the Wraith.
I wish the would have woken up the Wraith near the end of season 1, and spent more time learning about the city, the inhabitants of the galaxy, and having the occasional skirmish with random pockets of Wraith. A big buildup to to their reveal would have been much better.

Well they did get Atlantis back to Earth in the series finale.

And if the series wasn't canceled, they were going to have Atlantis go back to the Pegasus galaxy. Figure that one out.

They were going to take Atlantis back to the Pegasus galaxy for the simple reason that they were the ones who woke up the Wraith, created Michael and activated the Replicator attack code.

They would have been pretty damned irresponsible if they had run away from that.

But why take Atlantis itself back, that doesn't make sense.

They have ships now that can go there to clean up the mess.

Indeed, they could have sent their ships and or built an Icarus-style base on a Pegasus planet. There is no need to return Atlantis itself to Pegasus.

Any such base wouldn't have the defensive capabilities Atlantis does. It would fall to the Wraith a lot faster.

Yeah, so let's risk Atlantis, one of the most important pieces of history and technology Earth has right now. It makes NO sense.

They could do a better job flying in with their ships, which are Interstellar capable, and with the help of ZPMs powering them, fly in and take out Wraith cruisers and motherships before the Wraith even knew what hit em.

A couple thoughts on this matter:

-The Wraith can't attack what they don't know about. Thorughout seaosns 2 and 3 Atlantis personel did a reasonably good job hiding Atlantis's continued exisntence from the Wraith, and I don't think the Wraith (aside from Todd) ever learned the location of the new planet in seasons 4 and 5. So, using the same precautions, a Pegasus base should be safe from the Wraith.

-Let's face it, with Atlantis at Earth, it doesn't need to keep all three ZPMs. One can be sent to the Pegasus base to enhance its shields or generate a cloaking device.

What ZPMs ? Not sure where this box of infinite ZPMs comes from.

The Odyssey has a ZPM, though I don't think the other ships do. Still, all ships are enhanced with Asgard technology.

As for "infinite ZPMs" wasn't it implied in the finale that Todd was sitting on a hoarde of them? After all, after he gave Sheppard or Woolsey the address to his stash, Major Lorne returns with two of ZPMs. Although, I suppose if there were more, Lorne would have brought those with him too.

^Well, given that the hypothetical scenario in the OP is that they have no reason to go looking for ZPMs, I'll accept that they wouldn't have woken the Wraith up either.

So they should instead use a place that if the Wraith take will allow them to get to Earth?

After they made contact with Earth at the end of season one they should have installed a completely independent self-destruct system of their own.

Why risk the city though, it isn't worth it. That's like taking the most powerful thing Earth has going for it, and sending it into a war zone with the threat of being taken over or destroyed. It makes NO sense.
