What if Garrett Wang had left Voyager instead of Jennifer Lien?

You really didn't get that?

If the soaps were on the library computer, would she have continued to watch the continuing episodes after Futures End snuggled up with the Kitchenrat?

If Breaking Bad was in most Star Ships Library Computer, that seems like a fantastic place to direct Wesley Crusher when he asked the immortal question "What's Drugs?"

I wonder if Kim considered Data Mining the 20th century while he was there, or did the historians and archaeologists on board not wait for his orders?

What makes you think they would bother saving all that crap onto Voyager's computer when it all exists on computers on earth?

Oh right, the EUGENICS war.

Spock: Records of that time are fragmentary. Space Seed.

And people don't acknowledge the wonderful continuity in VOY.

Yeah Kes and Neelix would have sucked up every episode until the LAST ONE and then they would never know who was really the father of Julie's swapped at birth twin's baby.

They probably have thumb drives that can easily hold thousands of yottabytes.

It's not inconvenient to hold everything.

Tom's stupid movies.

His personal effects, or lifted from the Historical Data Base?

I’m sure that most of you already know that originally the powers that be wanted to get rid of Garrett Wang instead of Jennifer Lien. He was saved by the fact that in 1997 he was voted as one of the "50 Most Beautiful People in the World” by People magazine. What do you think Voyager would have been like if the powers that be would have gotten rid of the Harry Kim character instead of Kes? Do you think they would have still brought in a female Seven of Nine or do you think they would have brought in a male version of Seven of Nine instead? Of course the other options would have been to: 1) leave the main cast the way it was (minus Harry), 2) add a new cast member by finding a new character to join the Voyager crew, 3) promote one of the already known / seen extras to join the main cast, or 4) have an previously unknown Voyager crewman promoted to become a series regular a la Paolo and Nikki from Season 3 of Lost.

Honestly, I don't think anything would have changed. They still would have brought 7 of 9 aboard. The only thing that would have been different is that Tom either would've had to run his Captain Proton program by himself, or he would have found another buddy to do it with, probably Neelix.

I wonder if Tom ever thought to play Chaotica?

It would be a great way to put a date into something tight.

Although the Delaney sisters didn't mind operating for the forces of evil in something awfully constricting.

Also Tom wants to rescue a damsel, not tie a damsel up nefariously.

This is why Tom fails at being the bad boy they made him out to be in Caretaker.

Explains his having Harry there. Losing Wang might have forced the writers to use less infantile pursuits for Tom.

I think Neelix would've worked fine as a new BFF for Tom.
I did love Kes and Neelix's soap addiction. They probably did scour the Voyager databanks to try and find more soaps, but we never saw them watch again.
Kes seems like the type who would be an overachiver, always studying, improving herself, because she had so little time to do all the things she wanted to do.

She over achieved because she didn't have the distractions we do.

I know that we didn't see them watching soaps, but in your gut, do you think it might have happened off camera?

How many hours (Years?) of black and white TV did B'Elanna program into the TV she made for Tom?

Neelix loves Kes less than B'Elanna loves Tom, because Neelix never built his woman a Television.

At least Kes didn't take the soaps as lessons on how to run her life. I wonder what Seven would have thought about any soaps they recorded.

OMG I'd have loved to see Seven's reactions to soaps.
And I'd also have loved if we saw Neelix and Kes watching their soaps later too. You'd think there'd be something like soaps in the ship's library. Little things like that do humanize the characters. The scene with Neelix and Kes discussing the soap opera is one I've never forgotten, it's just a cute touch of character that makes them more three dimensional well rounded characters.

Hollonovels seem like too much effort.

They call it a novel but we all know that it's really just Dungeons and Dragons.

During a dinner party, Kes throws a drink in someone's face, and the entire room is agog.

"No, sorry, I was positive that that was the correct human reaction to this situation, it's always happening on the Bold and the beautiful, and it seems like a rational thing to do there."

I'm gonna have to suggest this to my favorite fanfic author. She's always open to suggestions about her ongoing Seven stories.

But that's only when she's mad at another woman, or if her current husband/lover has insulted her in some way.

Mind you, I'm not familiar with that one. I only watched it a little while when James Doohan was on it.

I picked a name at random.

The trouble I had with soaps (growing up) is that they seemed so dated.

Then I finally figured out that we were 6 or 7 years behind the states, since the lag was invented in the seventies and unless they started playing two shows a day, we would never catch up... And really, brand new episodes of Days of Our Lives had to cost a lot more than 7 year old ones, so maybe they didn't want to catch up.

Well, there are a lot fewer daytime soaps now than before. All My Children and One Life to Live were actually canceled for awhile before becoming web-based. Some of the older soaps were just plain canceled and will never be seen again, unless they're uploaded somewhere. I was able to catch up with over 3 years' worth of General Hospital this summer - I pretty much had to try, since the current storylines kept referencing those older storylines and it was getting really confusing.
