First they came for the Communists, and I did not speak out--
Because I was not a Communist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out--
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out--
Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me--and there was no one left to speak for me.
I have no further comment.

That is a piece of fear mongering. Glen Beck will be proud of you.

Wtf? That's exactly what did happen. Do you even know who that poem is from?

I believe it was a christian pastor who said that. But then again, all those centuries of hatred toward the Jews was developed by the Christians. Forced conversions, Jewish ghettos, pogroms, inQuisitions, unjust religious laws, massacres and preaching eternal damnation to Jews if they don't accept Christ as their personal saviour. All this occured for many centuries even before hitler was born. I am sorry but the many centuries of anti Jewish actions & deeds will not be erased by one poem by a pastor.

EmoBorg, you should let this thread die because one day, you will regret what you've written here and you will wish it to be forgotten.

I agree with half of that, specifically that Christians have done lots of horrible shit in the name of their religion. I don't agree that modern, racial anti-semitism is the same as the old-fashioned religious anti-semitism, although of course there was some connection.

But regardless. What the fuck does any of this have to do with the quoted poem and how the fuck is it "fear-mongering" when it's demonstratively, evidently (part of) what happened?

What the hell does that have to do with the Nazis?

The anti Semiticism that existed in europe for many centuries, was a result of a very strong Christian dislikes for non Christians. Early christianity in Europe had to contend with the pagans and the Jews. It wiped out the pagans populations by conversions and eventually banning pagan religious beliefs still followed by the few remaining pagans. It then went after the Jews as they had a different faith. Christian Europe considered the Jews as outsiders for many centuries because Jews retained their religious beliefs. Jews who converted to christianity made their lives easier but those Jews who remained loyal to Judaism, had it harder. The Nazis added a racial antisemitic element to the already earlier existing religious antisemitic element created by the church.

This thread has become my Frankenstein monster :( I am trying to let it die but I see posts that pisses me so much and that causes me to post replies in this thread. May the Gods of my ancient ancestors give me strength.

Fascist anti-semitism is not really a continuation of Christian antisemitism. It has more to do with the desire to project the problems of capitalism upon an outsider and the Jews were outsiders because of Christian antisemitism.
Nowadays you see a new version of it in Europe with islamophobic fascists like Breivik so it becomes obvious that not antisemitism but the desire to project economic issues upon an outsider is the general fascist pattern.

I might exaggerate the economic elements of fascism but let's not forget that like communism it was a response to unfettered capitalism.

Well, let me help you with that. The comparison above of an autobiographical account of what happened in Nazi Germany to Glenn Beck level fear-mongering is about all the fascist apologism I can stomach. Not to mention this thread has been a total clusterfuck of insults and innuendo. Thread closed.
