What I Want in the New Series

I am reasonably flexible but there are a few things I want.

1. A chance to audition for a part. I am now old enough to play a Junior officer. I would appreciate any suggestions?

2. We got the origin story/TOS prequel with 'Enterprise'... set the new series X # of years after Nemesis/Voyager. I would prefer it be about 15 years later so we can have guest starring roles from characters we miss, although since people live longer in Star Trek maybe that 15 years can be more like 30.

3. 20+ episodes a season, not 10-13. Star Trek is meant to be told as an expansive full season arc, and the new limited series format would be inappropriate for it.

4. Don't pander to being politically correct by including things like overt gay storylines that will alienate a lot of viewers(and no, this is not the same as race). I love Captain Sisko, although I didn't much care for the few racial pandering episodes, and the Kirk-Uhura kiss... so what?

5. Prime Universe.

6. Keep it in the spirit of TNG. I think that was ST at its best even though I love all incarnations.

Where exactly does "overt" start and what is not yet "overt"?

Like making one of the crew members gay just for the sake of doing it. The percentage of the population who is would be a few percent, so the odds are against one of like 8 people being so. They do this a lot on shows now. For instance on Stargate Universe they had one of the main characters be in a lesbian marriage... no story reason... just because.

That's what I said... of eight people the odds are against one fitting that profile. Star Trek should deal with issues of general morality and when beliefs rooted in nature or faith are insulted that is over the line... maybe they won't do this, but they very well may.

Get an agent.
Get an audition.
Get the part.
Realize that the producers can cut you at a moment's notice if they don't like the way you act or even your attitude.

3. 20+ episodes a season, not 10-13. Star Trek is meant to be told as an expansive full season arc, and the new limited series format would be inappropriate for it.

Not likely to happen. TV is expensive and if you want Star Trek done right, its going to be more expensive. I would be shocked to see more than 13 episodes.

It's timely. Star Trek does have a message element to it. Star Trek is about accepting our differences and working together. There will be some sort of LGBTQ character or storyline involved. It will not be overt but it will be there.

I'd say this is about 1 in 1000 of happening.

Respectfully disagree. Keep it in the spirit of TOS -- an action adventure show which had moments of diplomacy, and even a message or two.

May I also add -- this is not about what you, I or any other fan wants. It's what CBS believes will bring in the most viewers.

No. Prime Trek is dead. This is going to be helmed by the guy who helped create nuTrek.

Budget won't allow it. And most sci-fi shows over the past decade have had shorter runs. Most streaming anchors also limit their runs.

Also, go back to each season of Trek and cut out the worst half of episodes. It'd make for a much better franchise and we wouldn't have to be bitching about Shades of Gray nor Threshold anymore.

So, it'll be closer to 13 episodes. Sorry, kid.

If you're this afraid of "overt gay storylines", you should really just get over it...or not watch the damned episode in the unlikely even such an episode would air.

The odds of randomly encountering a homosexual are about the same as randomly encountering an Asian-American, right around 4%

You failed to add a number to your "few percents".

But what if you add all those main actors together? From TOS, TNG, DS9 and VOY and that other thingy? Is that than in the range of a "few percent"?

Should statistically a character of the sixth show be gay or lesbian?

If you round off to 40 main characters over the years and use American demographics (for some insane reason) then you'd have

8 children
6 senior citizens
10 would be Catholic
1 or 2 would be homosexual.
1 or two would be Asian. Looks like they got that right.

In my Star Trek world children belong BEFORE the screen not ON the screen! They managed to have some that weren't annoying but no star trek kid please.

So "overt" means "any". Well, if there shall be "overt" gayness you can still rewatch the old episodes (except that one from DS9).
