What happens to TWOK if TMP keeps the TOS uniforms?

I think Meyer would still go for the costume change, as that was one of the few things he able pull off on the budget they were under. IIRC, he said if he had the budget for brand new sets, the Enterprise bridge would have looked more reminiscent of the Nostromo from ALIEN.

It's statements like that one is why I am so relieved Paramount didn't give Meyer much money to explore his... non-Star Trek ideas into the franchise. Meyer has stated in his book he doesn't come up with ideas, but he can listen to a creative thought and embellish on them. Something he called, "Priming the pump"; and from his film resume, and oh YEAH he's actually made other movies, I think it was best he didn't have a larger budget to chew on.

Well, unfortunately, film costumes are much like the fashion world-they are designed to look good and that's about it. Functionality and practicality don't mean anything if it doesn't look good on screen.

I would think the same thing looking at Napoleonic era military uniforms and yet hundreds of thousands of people wore them for a couple of decades.

Sometimes uniform decisions are silly. In the early 2000's someone high up in the US Coast Guard decided that they wanted coasties to look more tactical so gone went blue dickies and the light blue shirt, and in came the BDU, in dark navy blue, renamed the ODU. Even Auxiliarists had to wear the damned things. On a small cramped boat in summer they were horrible, worse Coast Guard pre-determined, rightly, that the outer jacket could snag on machinery, boat parts etc, and so jacket that was designed for the army to be worn outside had to be tucked in at all times. But it looked good.

I'm going to give the Monster Maroons, which i think look great, a pass on comfort, as we don't know what fabric would exist in the future, or how they would fit. They could feel great.

I will point out the cognitive dissonance, when I see it, of anyone who says something negative about Star Trek catsuits but upholds the TMP uniform.

As long as everyone on the crew is wearing those catsuits I have no problem with them, which I found as very Star Trek, but don't single one person out to wear it.

Uniform decisions are usually based upon looking good and putting forth the proper image. To my mind, neither the TMP nor any version of a catsuit puts forth an imagine of professionalism.

Look at the outfits worn by any large organisations today.Be it army,police,retail,postal etc.-all made for comfort and practicality.
Why would Starfleet stick people in such a restrictive get-up?

But, today's organizations have a wide variety of uniforms to chose from, from very formal, dress, all the way to utilities and coveralls. Starfleet has always been a little odd in that many uniforms are treated as one size fits most rather specific uniforms for specific details.
