What happened to the Short Treks?

There was an interview where Kurtzman was asked if more would happen, his answer was just "maybe."
Back burner until further notice.

I'm not sure if they made enough money to offset the cost, especially since they were relegated to second-tier status by Netflix and are spanned across multiple series so can't have a singular release. The series mostly seemed as a proving ground/audition area for future showrunners (Chabon, McMahan, Kim & Lippoldt).
Kurtzman might want to make them, especially since he pretty much invented them and promoted them, but CBS might be very wary especially if the unexpected DVD/Blu-ray release didn't do so well.

I'd watch; they were my second favourite new Trek series (after Lower Decks). There could be one at Starfleet Academy, a couple fleshing out the 32nd century, some intrepid reporter Jake Sisko stories, tales from the temporal cold war, day in the life of Detmer or Jet Reno or other underused Discovery characters, even just a clip show of Michael finally looking up the full history lowdown after seeing the Spock Unification footage (finding out Spock died, came back, helped make peace with the Klingons and ended up in the Kelvin universe, that Pike got horribly injured, how Sarek and Amanda died, all the heroes of the Federation she missed out on [Kirk, Picard, Sisko, Janeway, etc], the Borg, Cardassians, Dominion, Iconians, sphere builders, temporal accords, temporal war, etc.), live action Lower Decks story, Federation diplomacy with the android planet from Picard...It's a big universe with stories from the 22nd to 32nd centuries (so far).

Wouldn't this be better as a show?

it would be nice to know what happened to Future Guy and the Suliban, at least. Or offer further development of the Tholians and their interest in the temporal cold war. Or the Klingons interest in the TCW for that matter.
fans want more development of the middle decks characters, so this might happen someday.

you mean the events in ENT that were probably hidden away in Section 31 filing cabinet somewhere? Or the Battle of Procyon V in the 26th century involving the Ent-J and all those old (at that point) Federation ships and Klingon ships from the late 24th century?
I’m sure they’ll be referenced in DIS at some point.
If I remember right, Short Treks was made as a way to lessen the blow of the delay between seasons of new Trek. Remember we had quite a long delay between the first two seasons of Discovery. However, we aren't seeing huge gaps now with all the new shows (Discovery season 4, Picard season 2, Short Treks season 2, Strange New Worlds season 1, and Prodigy Season 1). We are in an insane era where FIVE Trek TV shows are in concurrent production, along with possibly another movie as well.
I did like the randomness of Short Treks. One's set in the far future on a long-abandoned Discovery, one's about school children on the day of (Trek's upteenth) space 9/11, another is an animated Tom and Jerry in space. I'd have loved one with authentic 1960's Trek costumes and sets (probably filmed on the Set Tour) or something entirely bonkers like a thousands of years old human who uses the transporter to live forever, beam anywhere, copy himself and do all the other transporter glitch/cheat episode things.
I liked the one with the tribbles.
How about the one with Spock and Number One in an elevator... or is it a turbolift?
The Short Treks were just filler stuff that didn’t really add anything to the overall story (much like the nuBSG webisodes), and the one that was the best got contradicted later. There were people here who mentioned that they wish there was a Short Trek for such things as finding out what happened to Archer, or Garak, or (insert name here), but that wasn’t really the point of the Short Treks.
That deserved a whole episode. As soon as Lorca was revealed, the next episode should have been his POV from appearing on the transporter in our universe to recruiting the Discovery crew and getting his plan ready, ending again at his reveal. Instead he somehow lost all depth and became a cartoon villain.
Which short Trek episode was the best and how was it contradicted by a later episode in another series?

Starting with the second season of TNG, the production staff managed matters so that production order, boradcast order, and stardate order were almost exactly the same in the TNG era shows TNG, DS9, and VOY, and in the tNG movies.
But the ordrs of TOS and TAS episodes are very diferent in production order, broadcast order, and stardate order. There are no stardates in ENT, though there are a few Earth dates, so the episodes can be in prodciton order or braodcast order, and a few of them can be in Earth date order.
And I am not familiar enough with the .new Str Trek show sin recent years to have noticed any differences between produciton order, broadcast order, and stardate order. DISC and Picard seem to be very serialized, so that fictional order of most episodes should be obvious to a viewer.
The Short Treks episode "Ephraim and Dot" could change ideas about the order of TOS and TAS episodes.
According to "Ephraim and Dot" "Space Seed" was before "The Trouble With Tribbles" which was before "The Naked Time" which was before "Who Mourns for Adonais?" which was before "The Doomsday Machine" which was before "The Tholian Web" which was before "The Savage Curtain" which was before Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan which was before Star Trek II: The Search for Spock.
Scenes from "Space Seed", Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, and tar Trek II: The Search for Spock happen in the same order as those production must happen in for reason of their plots. But some of the other scenes from episodes do not happen in production order, broadcast order, or stardate order.
Thus in a fictional universe where "Ephraim and Dot" is a part of canon, either the scenes in Ephraim and Dot" are shown n adifferent order than tehy happened in, or TOS episodes do not happen in production order, broadcast order, or stardate order, but can happenin any orderand tree is no way to tell which order episodes happen in.
And some people interested in Star Trek chronology might welcome the freedom to arrange the tOS episodes in almost every possible order (except for the relative orders of episodes whidh are sequels to other episodes).
