What games are you playing currently?

I mentioned a while back that I was having a great time with Horizon Forbidden West ahead of its release. In case anyone's curious about my full thoughts, I gave it an 8 at RPG Site.

Triangle Strategy tomorrow. Terrible name, but it's Square Enix's first SPRG in ages. I'm quite excited. Suspect I'll be writing dozens of guides, not just on battle mechanics but on various narrative routes.

I agree with your review about the weapons part...... It's like they throw almost everything at you and let you sort out the huge mess of items you can carry or use. I would definitely say the game is an 8/10 even if I had a few things I disliked but that was mainly to do with the story they told. Some parts of it I don't like.

Yeah, the weaponry is wack! I think, for me, the story mostly ranges from fine to good. I was certainly surprised when I realized I preferred Aloy in Zero Dawn, however. I think that was the moment that crystallized for me that Forbidden West, a pretty great game in its own right, probably isn't as strong as its predecessor.

Same, same.... HZD is far superior.
I'll be honest I don't like most of what they did to the UI and crafting / skills tree. HZD was far superior.

BTW I'm at the base talked to Kotallo and then when I went back to the lab where he was he had vanished. Can they run off like that? Where is the rec room?

So far I like Forbidden West it's fun despite what I think were story parts I didn't like. I'm going to do more sidequests, things I didn't really take the time to do in the last game.

I've been chipping away at it the past week - still just outside Barren Light w/ the majority of the map untouched. While there are still several visual quirks that catch my eye, I think it's the best looking game I've played on PS5. The detail they've built into it is phenomenal.

I've been in a retro mood so I've been replaying Banjo-Kazooie on the N64.

I first played the game over twenty years ago, but I have to confess I was never Rare's biggest fan. Sure, their games always looked great, but I never thought they had the gameplay to back it up – give me Super Mario World and Yoshi's Island over the Donkey Kong Country games any day.

That being said, when I first started playing it I was surprised at how much fun it was. It was better than I remember, even allowing for its age. The camera engine is annoying and the swimming mechanics are tiresome, but still, I persevered. The early levels were fun, and I was making good progress with getting all the Jiggies and Notes without it being an unnecessary chore... and then I got to the fourth world, Bubblegloop Swamp, and Jesus H Christ. This level is so monumentally awful that it singlehandedly made me give up on the game twenty years ago, and it is still an absolute bastard now. There is a fine line between "challenging" and "tedious", and this game dances over that line too often. There's too many points where the programmers clearly think they're being clever, but instead they're just being plain mean. The game shouldn't actively discourage you.

Still, this time I persevered – I'm playing on an emulator now which helps enormously, because if I'd properly had to restart each level from the beginning every time I died I'd have given up again – and finally got through to the end. Some of the later levels are also real slogs (Mad Monster Mansion and Rusty Bucket Bay, ugh). Other later levels are challenging but rewarding (Freezeezy Peak and Click Clock Wood, and arguably Gruntilda's Lair itself). The game show challenge at the end is... certainly original, but also verges more towards "tedious" than "challenging". And yes, I got all 100 Jiggies and all 900 Notes, so I unlocked the true ending afterwards.

Overall I'd call it a flawed masterpiece. I still think Super Mario 64 is the better 3D platformer on the N64, though I will concede that Banjo-Kazooie is much prettier. But I can now at least see what other people like about it, even if I remain much less enthusiastic. I'm undecided as to whether I'll play Banjo-Tooie. Maybe I'll go try something else as a palate cleanser first.

^ I really enjoyed Arkham Knight. But then I also loved Arkham Asylum and Arkham City.

Anyway, I finished the main storyline in Horizon: Forbidden West earlier today. Now I'm working on getting the platinum trophy.

Half way through Control and well ummm it's a game 6/10.

Anyone here played Firewatch?
Night time in the forest is spooky such great atmosphere

I have to add the last two days I'm playing "Submerged Hidden Depths" and really it's a joy, very relaxing game, lots and lots of exploration figuring out platforming puzzles, not actual puzzles but paths, and lovely visuals. There is zero combat much like the game that came before it called Submerged and both games feature the same characters, sister and brother Miku and Taku.

If you like something really relaxing and fun try these out.

I got the Horizon: Forbidden West platinum trophy earlier today. Then I started playing The Solitaire Conspiracy.

Intriguing title there, what's it about?
It's a game by Mike Bithell (the guy that did Thomas Was Alone) and his team. It's basically a different take on Solitaire intertwined with a story about spies and supervillains. :D The story is kinda meh and can easily be skipped (if you don't like it) but the gameplay is fun.

Solitaire is always fun so I might have a look at that and consider it.

been playing Xenoblade 2 since yesterday. Have rex at level 11 and just met up with Toro at his hideout home and to build his artificial Blade which the quest is annoying because you have to dive into the sea/cloud to try to get whatever.

That and the newer battle mechanics are a bit frustrating to try to learn and figure out when youre fighting an enemy. Plus some of the sidequest stuff jeez. you got a wire being cut mystery youre trying to solve and its a bit tough to do when level 30ish enemeis get in the way when trying to fight level 2 to 9 enemies

Back in Horizon Forbidden West and Finally captured DEMETER so now I have 3 subfunctions of GAIA..... On to San Francisco once I clear some sidequests. Shit this game has a metric ton of them.

Picked up Elden Ring, really good so far.

Me too but the PC version which is a bit buggy unfortunately.

It really looks great and the character/monster design is top notch - just yesterday i watched a video where some guy maxed out his character statwise ( you can do this by using various farming exploits to generate runes/XP and level up the character) and fought all the major and several minor bosses, nearly one shotting them

I want to play the game as it was meant to be played and i knew what i was getting myself into this being a Dark Souls type of game. Died so many times in the first hours i started to get really frustrated but i'm getting slowly better as my stats are also improving, so i'm not killed immediately by a giant rat attack.

This game really is forcing you to "git gud", there is no way around it ( other than cheating and using the various exploits you can find on Youtube). Uncontrolled button mashing will kill you, even against a basic soldier so you are really forced to develop skills and combat tactics.

I like it but this game is massive! I wonder if i'll ever finish it.
