Finished The Last Guardian, really enjoyed it. It made me miss Prince of Persia for tangential reasons.
Yesterday I started playing the first Halo game, part of the Master Chief Collection. I have no experience with this franchise. I imagine it improves over the next few installments and I plan to play those too. The first game is of its time. Reminds me of games I played when I was a kid, but that's not necessarily a good thing. Interesting story but the gameplay is a little dated now.
Damn, do I want another Jedi Knight instalment. Or any kind of Star Wars game with a single player campaign.
I finally beat Halo CE for the first time tonight. I don't know if it's the game or if I'm just not as good at video games as I was 10 years ago, but the last three levels gave me such a hard time. I rage-quit like three times there at the end. But something about it kept pulling me back in. I'm interested to see how the gameplay and the story develops. I like the world they built.Gameplay will remain dated but it's the nature of the beast when it comes to story shooters that are not RPG with combat elements like Mass Effect. It's basically go there and kill everything that's not on your side.. rinse and repeat.
Once you accept this formula you can enjoy it and Halo has one epic story to tell with cool characters top amongst them the Master Chief who's the ultra badass. It can of course not compete visually with current top games but it may still be fun for those who didn't play them when they were originally released and as i said the story is amonst the best.
Last weekend i played the open beta of For Honor.. that was fun. I stuck with the Samurai and it's just fun to swing around your sword, blocking enemy strikes and trying to pull off some combo attack.
I'm still debating if it's 60 Euro fun for me, probably not but if it gets discounted in a few months or i can find a good deal for around 40 i may jump in.
now I'm curious, what difficulty where you playing on?I finally beat Halo CE for the first time tonight. Ha, I'm about to embarrass myself. I was playing on Normal difficulty. The last level wasn't so bad except for the Warthog stuff because I am nowhere near mastering the handling on that thing. Like I could see how the game wanted me to do it, I just couldn't execute. I could probably improve that with practice. The levels that really drove me crazy were Two Betrayals and Keyes. One part I really remember giving me trouble was right after you rip the captain's face off and Cortana tells you to get back to the hangar bay and you get swarmed by a few waves of Flood. I didn't have shotgun ammo, it was a wide open space, and I felt totally overwhelmed. At some point it was like the assault rifle was firing rubber bullets. Any part of the later game that had wide open spaces was harder for me; I was much better in corridors.now I'm curious, what difficulty where you playing on?
if you like the world they built, you're in for a treat - there is a metric ton of ancillary content available at this point (not to mention games of course) if you really want to sink your teeth into that world

Not embarassing at all, Normal is tuned to be challenging enough that it's absolutely possible to die, inevitable even without much practice!Ha, I'm about to embarrass myself. The funny thing is that the level people say is the hardest, The Library, wasn't that bad for me. Like, I died several times, but I always felt like I was making progress. And it's not like I'm inherently bad at FPS games -- I played the new Doom game recently and had no trouble with that.
Thanks to a nice, juicy Steam sale, I'm now playing GTA V. While it's still early on in the game, the feel of this one is quite different from the previous GTA installment. In GTA IV, I kind of like Niko. I know he's very flawed, but he seems like a decent guy just trying to get disentangled from his surroundings and start new. While I can understand Franklin's position, I can't stand the supporting characters. Also, I haven't heard this much use of the "N" word since I played two Richard Pryor stand up performances at the same time. That's kind of grating. I just started the Michael and Lester campaign, so I'm hoping missions get better. So far it's been hit and miss.
I do have to say the graphics and world of Los Santos is ridiculous in how fantastic it looks. Rockstar really upped the ante on this one.
