What format/s did you see STID in?

It's funny. I have fond memories of seeing The Creature from the Black Lagoon, It Came From Outer Space, and House of Wax in 3D (at revival houses--I'm not that old), but I have no real interest in seeing modern movies in 3D. I stumbled into a 3D showing of Clash of the Titans once and it didn't really do anything for me.

Although I'm not a fan of 3D, that was probably one of the worst modern 3D movies to make a call on. It's widely regarded as amongst the poorest post-conversions.

3D IMAX
Then 3D

Pay the extra $4 to see it in 3D. You can see it on the blu-ray and on telly in 2D as many times as you like.
I reget many years later not seeing Star Trek movies on the big screen in the best format when I could. Trust me here. Its not the same.

Being blind in one eye, the effect is lost on me. Though I'll give it a view in 3D when it comes out on Blu-ray as I have a 3D TV and player. :techman:

My husband is legally blind in one eye but could see it in 3D. He can see shapes and dark and light though. He says he can't see 3D in any old films just the newer ones. We've got a 3D TV too so I wonder if that will work for him.

I'm mostly joking about the 3D stuff guys. It doesn't worry me if you don't see it in 3D. I've waited a long time to see new Star Trek and I wanted to maximise the experience

So I gather.

I guess I still think of 3D as a gimmick. Seeing the Creature in 3D is part of the whole retro, campy experience--like seeing The Tingler in Percepto (which I have done). But when I see a new Star Trek movie I just want to watch the movie, not be distracted by 3D or fumble with funny glasses or whatever.

(I did catch the last movie in IMAX once, just because that was the only showing available, and found it kind of unnerving to be able to count the pores in people's faces. I don't need that kind of super-resolution, thank you very much!)

and several times in DVD blu ray

What?
The movie hasn't yet opened where ralph lives. He said that he saw it (dubbed into Portuguese) at the IMAX 3D national premiere event...

I saw premiere in Brasil IMAX 3D portuguese. I will see one time 2-D in june 14th in english ( I want hear Cumb voice) and several times in DVD blu ray
...and will see it again in English when the film opens in general release there next month. The DVD/Blu-Ray viewings will, of course, have to wait until that's actually released in November.

Haven't seen it yet myself in any format (y'all have been keeping me pretty busy here) but am hoping to rectify that soon.

I should read other people's posts more carefully ... somehow I thought he had already seen it on DVD. But looking at his post now, that's not what he wrote. Sorry.

first saw it in IMAX 3D and loved it, but it was a little too loud.

Then I saw it in regular 3D and the 'center channel dialogue was waaay too low--- a third of the lines were very difficult to hear.

Sad when my home set up is a lot better than a fairly new theater.

I saw it in 2-d format. Mostly because I simply don't care about 3-d, but also the 2-d version was at a better time.

Just 3D (which didn't add much) - my days of seeing films multiple times in the cinema are long past...

Regular 2D Digital projection. I don't like paying extra for a dim picture, especially when the film isn't even shot with 3D cameras.

One RD3D and one 2D.

Both screenings were in a mini-auditorium of the same size but I gotta say I liked the 3D better because, during today's 2D viewing I was so painfully aware of the void between the screen and myself. It did not feel as intimate as last weeks 3D viewing. Also noted a lack of fine details I distinctly remember noticing at the 3D show.

Agreed, Grant. It was very loud for us too and we were not even at an IMAX. Both times I wished someone would crank it down just a tad because dialogue was being drowned out.

ETA Oh, yeah; both in 4K. Thanks for reminding me, trevanian.

4K 2D screen.

Didn't even realize the theater I went to had 4K projectors, but for all the increase in resolution, you still have limited contrast, which kinda defeats the purpose (which is why IMAX isn't bothering to finish and output at 4K ... not until the nextgen laser projection gets unleashed.) Wish I'd been able to see a film print, but shoot, this theater was less than a mile from home.

Lots of luck even finding a print. In fact, for a movie lensed in IMAX, it's difficult to find it projected in 70mm! I don't think there are any here in LA. It's all digital 3D.

All times IMAX 3D. Will keep going w/IMAX until Man of Steel takes its place. After that its
onto 3D, 2D, then the dollar theatres.

At the IMAX if you usually sit in the middle, try the sides. The visuals suffer a bit but your ears will love you. :)

I saw it in film 2D at the Omnimax (Carnegie Science Center in Pittsburgh). It was quite awesome.
