Note that most poeple who actually don't like DIS are most likely not going to take part in this poll. It's much easier to watch a television series you only half like if you don't have to pay for it.

Exceptions are non-US citizens. I don't like DIS enough that I would pay a new streaming service solely for it, but as part of an already existing service I'll gladly watch it every week.

Yea I'm not in the US so I'm not subjected to the CBS paywall. If I was in the US I wouldn't be watching because there is no chance I would pay for CBS AA.

It boggles my mind that a plurality like DS9 the best (more than TOS & TNG combined). It think it reinforces the idea that the forum itself is skewed towards DS9ers, who are more likely than other subsets to like Disco. Thus skewing the sample.

Results back this up, though small sample. ENT fandom is 50/50. VOY is 2/1 for it. TOS/TNG are roughly 3/1 for it. DS9dom is almost 10/1.

To answer, I like TNG the best, by a hair over TOS. I like the other shows, but they fight for a distant third.

As for Disco, other than TOS is has had the best first five. Wuth TNG at the bottom.
Here are the current ratios (x% of [series] lovers like DSC)...

TOS - 65%
TNG - 83%
DS9 - 83%
VOY - 70%
ENT - 50%

So, yeah, it's apparently just as popular among TNG and DS9 lovers, but there are far more Niners represented on the forum.

Well, I've got one free episode left. I'm not going to pay for this.
Hooray!

Interesting that it's least popular with fans of the other pre-24th century shows. I suppose we expect more out of "non-utopian" Star Trek than this.

I'd think this show is tailor-made for Voyager fans.

It occurred to me tonight that DISCO is what I was kinda hoping ENTERPRISE would be: grittier, more contemporary in tone, more of a sense of space being a dangerous frontier, etc.

Very much the same thoughts here. It seems to me like they had another go at Enterprise and did it well this time.

To answer the poll, DS9 is my favourite series, and I'm enjoying DSC.

The things I liked about Deep Space Nine are definitely similar things that I like about Discovery, so I would accept the premise that there is crossover there. It isn't about 'darkness' or 'grittiness', it is about complexity, about difficult storylines without easy answers, its about space feeling dangerous and exciting again, its about minority and female characters with agency and strength of character, its about relationships that seem natural and human, its about characters with interesting backgrounds that actually affect their character in the present, its about consequences, growth, progress and following through with ideas.

DSC's first season strongly reminds me of DS9s, in a number of ways. It's still got a bit of clunkiness to it, it's got some missteps and ideas that didn't work as well in the telling as in the conception, but it has a set of characters which fascinate me, that I want to see more of, that have room for growth and whose actions affect them and others around them. It isn't afraid to address complex issues head on. It already feels like a big universe with a lot going on, with a supporting cast that are worthwhile characters in their own right. Lots of positive parallels there.

I don't know if we'll have a Duet by season's end, but we've got a few In the Hands of the Prophets already.

Agreed on all counts. Very good.

I'm not so sure though. It seems like nobody would want to miss the opportunity to express their displeasure!

Wow the results surprise me! Many of you like DS9 and like disco.

Well I'm not surprised people like discovery but that 40% picked DS9 over the rest. For me that's my fav all time show. They packed so much awesome into an hour of TV.

Every Saturday at 7pm I knew exactly what I would be watching. I really miss it. Cried like a baby throughout the series finale. No other show has affected me as much before or since.

I can certainly understand why a fan of DS9 would like disco. A darker show it was for sure but grounded in timeless reality. I can only hope that this show one day becomes as good.

Polls on this site tend to skew toward DS9, for whatever reason we're a bunch of niners.

As a Voyager fan and watching Discovery I make comparisons mainly when others do. Just watching Discovery on its own there isn't much that makes me think they have the same spirit. Janeway, B'Ellana, Kes, Seven .. they are a different breed in a different time.

I notice there are a lot of DS9 fans here and given the darkness and static feel of Discovery and war theme, it kind of makes sense they might look to Discovery for some more of that.
