What eventually happens to Nhan?

You know, it just hit me:

When Nhan last appeared on DSC, she was part of Federation Security, which has become part of Starfleet. Was that intentional? Or just a writing error, and they meant to say Starfleet Security?

Because the Federation Security Agency is supposed to be a civilian, non-Starfleet organization (at least it appeared that way in ST III). I find it rather chilling that it has apparently become part of Starfleet. Is there no more civilian law enforcement on Earth? :(

I mean, that would be like the FBI becoming part of the military. Of course nobody would want that. In fact the Posse Comitatus Act specifically forbids the military from ever carrying out civilian law enforcement duties. One would hope that the Federation would have a similar law on the books.

Again, I'd LIKE to think that it was a writing mistake and they meant to say Nhan was part of Starfleet Security (which of course makes sense, as that's exactly what Nhan has always been - a security officer).

Can anyone confirm?

A lot can happen in 900 years, so its possible the Federation Security Agency and Starfleet Security merged into one entity. The nature of it can only be speculated.

But DIS isn’t great at worldbuilding. There are a lot of unanswered question about the 32nd century two seasons in. Its why DIS really needs an episodic season where they just explore and explain what happened to all the Roddenberry/Bennett/Berman/Moore/Behr/Piller stuff.

Since Earth isn't part of the Federation at the time that episode takes place, how can this be used as an example of anything?

Regardless, the only canonical evidence of civilian law enforcement on Earth in the entire franchise is Trek XI. Though the novels indicate the Federation Security Agency in TSFS is meant to be civilian, the onscreen evidence is rather nebulous on the matter. If they're civilian, why does their detainment facility have the Starfleet arrowhead on the walls and why is it staffed by Starfleet Security?

The fact the Federation Security uniform worn by Nhan and Lt. Willard is distinctly different from the Starfleet uniform would seem to indicate it's meant to be a different organization. But then, they do wear Starfleet badges and Willard answers directly to Admiral Vance.
Can anyone confirm?
Not possible. As mentioned above, 32nd worldbuilding is non-existent on the show, and no one from behind the scenes has elaborated on things at all. All we can do is speculate for the time being.

Since McCoy was a Starfleet officer, I assume that the FSA handed him over to Starfleet after his initial arrest.

Much apologizings, I should have said "the Federation".

I'll resist the temptation to make puns about unleavened bread baked in a tandoor.
And now I find that others failed to resist that temptation, over two years before I even saw the thread. Although personally, I'd prefer chicken korma instead of the vindaloo that "Ar-Pharazon" ordered.

I would assume that the absorption of Federation Security by Starfleet is a function of the severe contraction of the Federation post-Burn. I mean, they're literally using a space station as their capital. I imagine that as more and more worlds re-join the Federation and its institutions get restored to functionality, there's a strong chance Federation Security will become a separate civilian agency again.
