Re: What Enterprise Do You Prefer? NuENterprise NCC 1701 or TOS NCC 17

At first i didn't like the design of the NX 01 but it grew on me.

Re: What Enterprise Do You Prefer? NuENterprise NCC 1701 or TOS NCC 17

The original Enterprise.
Abrams Enterprise.
TNG Enterprise.
The Search for Spock Excelsior.

Re: What Enterprise Do You Prefer? NuENterprise NCC 1701 or TOS NCC 17

I like the way the Excelsior's deflector looks like it's glaring at you. Also, it's blue. The hull.

Re: What Enterprise Do You Prefer? NuENterprise NCC 1701 or TOS NCC 17

I like the NX01 too the Akiraprise...

Can you climb into the nacelles on any of the other versions?

There was an entire TNG episode based upon the nacelle interior - "Eye of the Beholder," the only instance in any Star Trek TV series or film where the inside of a starship's warp nacelle is depicted. (wiki)

Wrong. See:

"The Catwalk" - ENT

The Catwalk is the episode I was thinking of, I just wondered if any of the other ships had crew access to the nacelle interior..

Didn't the refit Enterprise A have a docking port on the bottom of the nacelles? I have an AMT kit and it shows a round docking port just where the engine meets the pylon

I don't recall seeing the nacelle's interior in "Catwalk" - only an adjoining chamber. I'll have to take a look at "One of Our Planets Is Missing" - I don't remember it at all, and I don't include anything animated in my head canon just as I exclude comics from my reality.

Looks like your headcanon is...

@JWPlatt, the ENT episode did indeed feature the interior of the nacelle itself.

The adjoining chamber you were referring to, was the control room which Archer turned into a makeshift bridge/helm station.

Why would a nacelle need a control room anyway? Wouldn't it be super hot in there when it's turned on?

Re: What Enterprise Do You Prefer? NuENterprise NCC 1701 or TOS NCC 17

Here are screenshots, and here's the dialog from "One of Our Planets Is Missing" that confirms that they are indeed inside one of the nacelles:

SCOTT: I can rig a force field box that'll hold the villi suspended in the centre. Then I can take it into the antimatter nacelle, put it into the regenerating chamber and release the forcefield by remote control.

This design clearly influenced Geoffrey Mandel's schematic of the nacelle from 1978, that's included as a bonus sheet in the LCARS Blueprint Database entry of the Franz Joseph plans.

In the actual nacelle, yes. But the room in question was sealed off. That's why Archer used it as a bridge/helm.

Re: What Enterprise Do You Prefer? NuENterprise NCC 1701 or TOS NCC 17

Actually they had to power down the warp drive and let Enterprise drift on through the anomaly.

The nacelles were still cooling when they went in and people complained about the heat at first, until it dissipated.

The catwalk was only meant for maintenance when the ship was at a starbase, if the engine were under normal operation they'd have been incinerated in seconds.

The little control room was likely no more protected either, meant for shore based coordination of the worker crews.

And yet if that control room had the same heat inside why didn't all the equipment like the screens and stuff melt?

The equipment and screens and stuff wereen't already there. They set up a temporary command station in that space because it would have been fatal for anyone to be outside the shielded nacelle catwalk, due to "radiolytic isotopes" in the storm.
PHLOX: Enterprise may survive. The crew is another matter. The storm is saturated with radiolytic isotopes. If the crew is exposed, they'll be dead within three minutes. Sickbay is the most heavily shielded section. It's possible that some of the crew could survive there.
ARCHER: We can't fit eighty three people into Sickbay, and I'm not about to draw lots.
(Tucker studies a schematic on another monitor.)
TUCKER: What about the Catwalk? You know, the maintenance shaft running the length of each nacelle.
ARCHER: They are heavily shielded. Some kind of osmium alloy, if I remember.
T'POL: You're proposing we take refuge in a crawlspace?
TUCKER: It'll be a tight squeeze, but there's no reason we can't fit eighty three people in there, and whatever supplies we need.
ARCHER: Doctor?
PHLOX: Do you know the absorption depth of this alloy?
TUCKER: At least twenty thousand particles per micron.
PHLOX: It should be adequate.
TUCKER: There's just one other problem. It gets kind of toasty in there when the warp coils are online. About three hundred degrees. We'd have to shut down the main reactor.
ARCHER: I don't see that we have any choice. We'll use the Catwalk, and set up a command station in one of the compartments.

Re: What Enterprise Do You Prefer? NuENterprise NCC 1701 or TOS NCC 17

^^^ Ah OK my bad..

I had thought that equipment was part of a nacelle control room ..But that probably could have been done from Engineering under normal conditions..

Re: What Enterprise Do You Prefer? NuENterprise NCC 1701 or TOS NCC 17

Yeah I remember them having to haul a lot of monitors and cables in there, opening all the wall panels and jerry-rigging everything into the cables running behind the bulkheads that would have been sealed and heat protected otherwise.

Wasn't there a mockup joystick for flying the ship too at one point?

Interesting episode, dumb ideas at times. Pity they rehashed the near extact same idea in the first Federation novel post-Romulan War.
