What DON’T you like about the show?

We should slso remember something when looking for context with the Borg ships and the Cerritos. The FLAGSHIP of the Federation was...

Taken over by a hologram twice (Moriarty) and a group of Ferengi who used two outdated Klingon ships.

Had a space baby attached to its hull for a good chunk of an episode.

Had a science project of nanites that ate their computer core and nearly got them stuck inside stellar matter and destroyed.

And speaking of collisions, they've collided with another Starfleet ship that destroyed them... multiple times.

As i stated many, many times up here, the problem is the context (or lack of thereof). There is clear intent here to depict the crew as a bunch of incompetent cowards for the lulz, while even in the series they are not really incompetent or coward.

Or they’re simply smarter than most Starfleet officers? Knowing when they are outmatched and reacting in a realistic fashion...

I don’t think the crew is portrayed as incompetent or cowardly. I think they are portrayed as unprofessional and silly, but that’s a long way from incompetent and cowardly.

But, last time I checked, this is an animated comedy. Serious, professional behavior doesn’t make for great comedy typically. A lot of LD is meant to be just enjoyed and taken with a big grain of salt.

It’s fun if you do that. If you expect it to be animated TNG...you’re in for considerable pain.

except that I’m really liking how the show portrays then, I just don’t like the opening sequence.

Nah...it’s not worth taking literally. It’s like getting mad at how ridiculous it is that the Enterprise would warp past the same spot in space from different angles within a matter of seconds, or that the Voyager would, for some strange reason, fly directly through a planet’s rings on a parallel angle. It’s just a cute little montage played for laughs.

And, honestly, the opening credits are the part I find most funny about the show. The rest of the humor is “take it or leave it” for me.

The opening credits set the tone for the show. It's doing its job.

I dumped cable TV a long time ago now and I don't do 'streaming',
So you don't watch TV at all, I take it?
the only two ways I could see this would be at someone elses' house (not happening until the pandemic is over and done with), or to download it illegally,
There is a third option: buy the DVD or Blu-ray when it's released in May.

But since I suspect your mind is already made up anyway, bye.

Just came here to say, I've never even seen this 'Lower Decks' thing, nor have I watched 'Rick and Morty', but I'm familiar with the creator of this and the kind of programs he creates, and that alone is enough for me to not go to any trouble to see it. I dumped cable TV a long time ago now and I don't do 'streaming', so the only two ways I could see this would be at someone elses' house (not happening until the pandemic is over and done with), or to download it illegally, and that's not happening either. Just doesn't seem to be worth any effort for something that just seems to be a cheap parody/satire with apparently no depth to it.
thanks for letting us know that you’ve already decided that the show is a cheap parody without ever watching it.

By the way, if checking TNG episode over and over to get the corridors background sound “just right” is cheap I wonder what would be expensive (and yes, this is exactly the kind of things they’ve been doing to recreate the TNG feel).

And what happens in many episodes has a surprising amount of depth IMHO. Sure, there is plenty of laughing, but it’s mostly laughing in the context of Star Trek, not AT Star Trek.

There is this thing called an 'antenna', you know. Over-the-air broadcast is still a Thing, and it costs nothing.
Also if I'm not willing to pay CBS for their streaming service for something I'm dubious about in the first place, why would I buy a DVD of it?
If there's some convenient way I can see it at some point that doesn't cost me anything other than time I might watch it, but I'm not willing to pay to do that.
They do usually offer free trials so you coud find that, especially with Paramout+ now being the service. It's not like it would be the only show on there you could potentially enjoy.

But, yeah, streaming may not be for you if time is less valuable than money...

I don't watch The Simpsons, Family Guy, or South Park either. Am I to be crucified for that, too? Seesh.
When it was in its prime, Simpsons was one of the best TV shows, period. South Park is probably among the top 5% most intelligent shows on TV, though at times it can get a bit too preachy for its own good. Family Guy can be pretty damn funny when it wants to be, though again, it can have a problem of being a soapbox for the writers and producers.

I enjoy parodies, especially of shows I like, but when they started using profanity like "Dick" I tuned out immediately.
It's starting to get very bad
