what do you want to happen in TrekXII

Whole new kind of foe. No Klingons or Khan or Borg. Let's see how fresh and new Trek can be again.

Push forward the Super Angst Spock subplot in a subtle and non-hamfisted way. They're going to do this subplot anyway - it's the reason they killed Amanda and blew up Vulcan - so I'm hoping for good drama and some interesting interaction between Spock and Uhura, Kirk and McCoy. It's a new factor we've never seen before and will change his relationship with all those characters from what we might expect.

The Romulans still need more development. I was hoping Trek XI would give them that but really didn't. The Romulans shouldn't be back in the main plotline till the third movie, anyway. I can wait.

I want their to definitely be Klingons or Romulans but I want the introduction of a galactic threat that doesn't come from any specific species. Space can be a threat too if the story is told right.

What would really be cool would be a classic sci-fi/horror element to be brought in, something that really hasn't been explored in Star Trek. Not necessarily a carbon copy of a monster like from 1979's "Alien", or even as mild as the salt-sucker alien from TOS episode: "The Man Trap" (though that wasn't mild as a kid). Star Trek is definitely capable of demonstrating diverse story telling capability if they did that for one film it would be awesome and could sell tickets!:klingon:

Well, my first choice would be to forget that the previous film ever happened and start fresh, but barring that, I'd like to see TPTB do something that they'll never have the stones to do, which is stay the hell away from old stuff--Borg, Romulans, Klingons, etc.--and do something totally *GASP*! new and *GASP*! original. Yeah......it ain't gonna happen. Wake me in 2021 when the re-boot is over, will ya? *yawn!*

^^^ Agreed and certainly no remake of "The Space Seed".

Whatever the details, I would really love to have the climax come down to Kirk and the main antagonist duking it out, Kirk winning the fight and then delivering a rousing speech in a torn shirt and a bloody lip. That's classic Trek. :)

"Balance of Terror" writ large...

War weary Romulan Commander - tactical strategist not glorified space rig worker, racist element within Starfleet, battle of wits between an inexperienced crew and an invisible enemy who knows every trick in the book, a major casualty among the main characters, Vulcan refugees caught in the crossfire, some sympathisers keen to reunite with the Romulans.

Spock giving a history lesson to the crew, now taking into account some juicy ENT era flashback... NX & Daedalus ships fighting off Warbirds, Drones among Vulcan ringships and Andorian cruisers... Bakula in an Archer cameo, at the Federation founding ceremony.

Romulans have been cheated by each and every film to date. Both Nemesis and the last one both disappointed in that regard. Mostly portraying them two dimensionally, playing second fiddle to their Reman cousins or as yet another bunch of nutter's henchmen, unable to even grasp the magnitude of their actions. It would be refreshing to see Romulans more than villains out for personal gain... Try the traditional Star Trek interpretation, expanding their empire or dying in the attempt. A major enemy with a serious, century old grievance against Earth and Starfleet. A chip on their shoulder half a quadrant wide, for allowing their Federation to set up shop next door. Worse still with blood relatives providing them a thousand years of knowledge, after only being a presence in the neighbourhood for less than a century.

How could that happen? The next movie wouldn't even be happening if XI hadn't been at least something of a success. The fact that it was a big fat success means that the philosophy will be to recapture what made it a hit, and if possible, build on it.

No Khan!

New enemy...or a cool update of a lesser-seen, less ordinary, one - Tholians?

It should remain humanistic yet not mindless hippie nonsense - loved the subtle line about Starfleet being a peacekeeping humanitarian armada.

A grand rip-roaring adventure continuing the "amusement park" exploration of the new Trek universe.

Mostly I think I want to see...someone said in an earlier thread something like, "Okay now we know how Kirk got in the big chair, now lets see why he deserves it." I want to see Kirk handle a real alien, out-of-context, threat. I mean, he's our man on the frontier of human knowledge and existence. That's what being captain of the Enterprise is all about. Shatner was always coming across all sorts of weird shit and thinking, with great pathos, his way through it.

Of course it would be "ChristopherPike" that would come up with a movie-worthy reinvention of an earlier episode. Well done, sir.

But really, for me, no remakes.

Ah, but it wouldn't be so much a remake as fitting in to what the Romulan commander said at the end of "Balance of Terror", they could become friends this time by the end of the film, comrades indeed, it would fit very well and be fresh and new still, plus it would flush out the Romulan culture finally for the Trekkies and Trekkers satisfaction.

For me:

-A sexy female villain this time around.

-A new alien world and species.

-A contemporary (yet allegorical) moral dilemma.

-The Enterprise leading a taskforce of other Federation starships into battle.

-More of the Kirk, Spock, and McCoy dynamic.

-Uhura kicking somebody's ass.

-Sulu and Chekov becoming buddies.

-Scotty being a miracle worker.

-A cliffhanger ending that will leave Trek fans in sheer agony until Star Trek XIII...
