What if TrekBBS makes it to the real 23rd Century?
Somebody has way too much free time.Imagine if someone said today was the last day before the board was going to be shut down. What do you think would happen? I mean nobody would have time to really discuss anything. I am guessing you would have people saying goodbye everywhere all across the board. Tons and tons of trolling as well. Cussing like you have never seen.
I would myself would kind of like the "Babylon 5" ending for the board. T'Bonz and many of the older members travel to the place were the actually server is located. It's going to be destroyed because someone wants to make a hall way through the room and just keeping the server around will be a navigation hazard so it must be blown up. Everyone leaves and Christian wearing a workman's outfit pushes the button as it explodes almost as soon as everyone leaves the room. Then everyone heads off to their new lives. T'Bonz goes off on a Sunday Drive never to be seen again though everyone who was here swears she will return someday and start another Trekbbs from scratch.

I'm really admiralelectronI'm really @Hugo Rune
Or goatees!I'd rub my hands together, say "this is my chance!" and offer @T'Bonz $20 for the database. Starscape would become huge overnight. *cackle*
Unfortunately, a week or so later, someone would just start "TrekBBS But With Hats," and everyone would migrate over.
I'd imagine someone would start a new trekbbs and a lot of folk would just migrate there. It would be smaller but there's enough traffic here it would not be one of those nearly dead spinoff boards.
So T'Bonz goes back in time to reboot TrekBBS with a younger cast? When our sun goes Supernova.
This actually happened to my other favourite BBS.
SFX Magazine used to have its own site, and it was great. Especially their version of Misc, called Oftopica, which had a suicide support thread, where we'd talk each other out of it, and other threads that reviewed TV shows and books, exchange Xmas greeting, put up photos, the whole thing. And then someone bought SFX and they decided they didn't need it anymore, and the whole BBS was to be scrapped. We had a couple of months notice.
Some of the mods had an 'after hours' site, because for some reason the SFX sit was not 24/7 called Offtopica2. It was great that most of us went over there, but I don't especially like the colour scheme, hard to read, so haven't been back for a while. Just checked it out. Some threads haven't had a new post in 3 years, and it's a sad place compared to the vibrant original.
I might have to post there see if I can liven it up a bit.
But the community's scattered. A salutary lesson for us here, I believe.
