What Do You Think Of NuTrek? Does It Hold The Standards Of TOS?

Actually I meant thread not posts have been closed. I had one closed earlier today. Maybe I will give you a private message on this one to explain more thoroughly.
It was closed because you started a thread to ask a question you could have found the answer to in 2 seconds on Google. That's less time than it took for you to start the thread.

I also got a trolling point for one comment(The comment was "Calm Down) to a person that was goading me as usual.
You could have avoided that infraction by not replying to that poster. If you didn't like what they said, you could have brought it to a moderator's attention by flagging it with that little ! icon on the left. And what they said doesn't look like goading to me.

I think it was. That particular poster has done much worse on other threads even plainly saying mine should be deleted and has not gotten one infraction. He loves NuTrek so the mod is easy on him. There is a excellent example of his behavior in my Enterprise vs. Enterprise thread.

The mods, especially that mod, do not play favorites. The poster in question has had more than his share of infractions. Problems with mods can be addressed in Moderator Actions. PM the mod first though.

Maybe I haven't been here long enough to see that particular poster get infractions. I did PM the moderator this time with my concerns.

I have not made a post like this one here and actually never posted it anywhere else. I was hoping to get some good responses.

Are you saying the 30 threads you've started in this list never covered the same territory?

Not the particular question I am asking here. I may have asked thinks like what enterprise you like or other small points. This thread is something I have never asked.

Remember, your history travels with you.

I have been a fan of TOS since about 8 years old and knew more about it due to reading Trimble's concordance that watching full episodes. The ones I did watch were memorable and enjoyable, with Balance of Terror being my favorite one.

The new movies capture the excitement and adventure that TOS had. And, I know that I am unique in this, I think they captured the characters as well, in a different way.

Does Abrams' films meet my TOS standards? Yes, yes they do. I would like to think my standards are pretty simple, and based upon GR's original concept for TOS of action-adventure with social commentary. For me, the new films have plenty of both.

YMMV :)

Why are you asking it here? There are existing polls in General Trek and STXI+ forums in threads you've participated in.

My similar posts kept getting deleted at the XI boards because most there don't want to hear anything negative about the movies. The TOS boards are a bit more open then the STXI boards. I am asking anyone here to say anything positive or negative about TOS or NuTrek as long as they are respectful. Basically lets just have a fun talk about the new o old movies or TOS series. We all don't have to agree.

But it's clear that you've already made up your mind and, for some reason, are determined to achieve some sort of consensus against the new movies, even if you have to keep posting variations on the same question all over the board until you get the "right" answer from the rest of us.

We get it. The new movies don't work for you. Fair enough.

But it's been six years now. You're not going to change anybody's minds at this late date. It's not like there's a secret hoard of anti-reboot fans hiding in the bushes somewhere, just waiting to be asked the right question in the right forum. :)

The point of the thread was to get all views. I mean look we are all still taking about the original episodes and they are 40 years old. Theres always something new or old to talk about or debate about. Its fun.

I'm just curious as to why someone who professes to not like the Abrams films feels the need to constantly start posts about them, or even start posts that have nothing to do with them but still contain references to them. I mean I don't like ENT but you'll probably never see me ever start a post in the ENT forum about that show.

Actually, strike that. I'm not curious at all, since I'm pretty sure I know the answer.

This was the kind of response I was looking for. I agree that the adventure is there and see why you guys like it. I just wish they would add a little more of the social commentary. I have hopes for the next film. I also hope to see the lens flares disappear as well as the shaky cam.

The amount of "social commentary" is highly exaggerated. Especially in TOS. The new films are playing at about the same level as far as that's concerned. They are also a bit more subtle than most Trek in that area, eschewing the rather hamfisted approach seen in past Trek.

I agree with this point. I don't think the social commentary is necessary for it to be successful Star Trek. What commentary is in Trouble with Tribbles?

Some times Trek is overt and some times there is nothing there beyond a fun adventure.

However, I don't see Abrams films doing anything differently than TOS did beyond faster, more explosions and a different director style. It isn't everyone's style but then, neither is any of the Trek films or series.

My dad enjoys TOS but has never watched a series after it. And I have no doubts that examples exists across the fandom.

Social/political commentary is responsible for many of my favorite episodes. I have to say I would probably not be much into Trek without it.

Started out on TOS, loved it and still love it. I also love the new films, and believe they are essentially updated versions of the original series. Not only would Gene Roddenberry be proud, but he'd have added more nearly naked women, keeping Bill Theiss employed from beyond the grave.

I agree with and endorse everything you say. I particularly like how Kirk's lady-a-thon just kept on trekkin' from Gaila's bed in XI to the cat ladies in XII and hopefully onto Marcus in XIII. I know in my heart that Gene would have liked this too.

We need to get D.C. Fontana to weigh in on this, but she hasn't seen a Trek movie since Star Trek VI.

Thats.. :guffaw:

I really liked them. Having gone backwards in regards to TOS and now looking at them again, it's refreshing to see a young Spock somewhat embrace his emotions. Kirk is still the same with the ladies, and McCoy hasn't lost any sarcastic wit. The special effects are pretty amazing as well.

Gen Trek.

This forum is for TOS only discussion. Adding nuTrek makes it a thread for Gen Trek. Please restart it there.

Plus, sick of the TOS/nuTrek arguments. ;)
