What do you do with your porn?

Sorry. :o It wasn't my intention to burn anyone.

But I honestly think that a significant minority of my students would be better off at a vocational or technical institution.

A university education can yield all sorts of tangible and intangible benefits, both expected and unexpected. For example: I never expected an Honours BA in History to get me a job as a quality inspector at a molded-plastics plant--but it did.

But for some people, it never pays off--or pays off only in the very long term. If students are struggling to get D's and C's, then, in my opinion, they should really consider doing something else in life. The demand for skilled workers is much higher than the demand for academics, and they could save themselves a lot of disappointment and bitterness thereby.

Oh, no offense taken, I mostly agree anyway. I actually did a degree in Journalism, which is an academic subject one might think, but practically speaking had I intended to go down the route of actually being a Journalist I would have been much better off leaving school at 18 and taking an apprenticeship at a newspaper.

As it is I do graphics, web design and programming, all my degree ever got me was a foot in the door for interviews at jobs which required higher education, once I can demonstrate my practical abilities nobody cares about my degree anymore. In fact I don't even put my grade on my CV and nobody has ever even asked me what I got. Not once. :vulcan:
