What do you do for a living?

^We have similar professions.;) I'm a technical writer for a telecommunications software company and a translator on the side. I usually translate to/from English, French and Romanian, but I've also done some work in German.

Save the galaxy....on a routine basis. The travel's not bad, but the pay sucks. There's a reason you're not living a miserable, hellish life, enslaved by tyrannical alien overlords.

You're welcome.

:)

What, no benefits?

Sadly, "not dying" seems to be the main one and that's pretty much all on me.

Looking at the health "plan", it seems that there's an incredible amount of statistical mumbo-jumbo, that when deciphered (if you can call it that) seems to be leaning heavily on the notion of my not surviving. A sort of "Why bother? he's not coming back....Oh fuck, he came back." kind of thing. Really rather off putting if you ask me.

I did get a rather nice card for decades of galactic saviouring though....the poetry was a bit dicey and it said "To a great Son-In-Law" on the front and didn't really have anything to do with my saving the galaxy all the time. Nor was there any money, checks, credits, gift cards, loose change or any form of currency enclosed. There was an IOU for the card, but at least they gave me a few days to pay it.

But the galaxy is safe!

Is there not a Das Walmart you can drive over to and pick up a window unit?
No, that's no option, I'm afraid. AC units are very expensive, hard to get and not common in Germany. We consider them a waste of energy and not "environmentally correct". Even most hospitals don't have any. Instead, we invest in better thermic isolation and build our houses so that they don't heat up too much (not so many windows facing south, for example).
Indoors it's usually nicely cool. The prob is outdoors. Today it's rainly and pleasantly cool, though :)

You can get a decent window unit at any number of stores here for like $150. It won't cool the whole house, but at least you can sleep in a cool, comfortable room.

As for energy, I'm paying for it. And if I want it cool, I will pay the extra money for it.

As for 'environmentally correct,' I see that the greenwashing of the people is not just an American thing.

"Das Walmart" is funny. Interesting that they tried to introduce Walmart in Germany some years back, but it failed.

We used to have a Wal-Mart in Corby, but it got turned into Asda, so there you have it. You can still see the painted over Wal-Mart sign (strangely enough, because after all, Asda is "part of the Wal-Mart family", isn't it?)...well, at least you could last time I was there, a few months back.

And you cannot put a price on a decent sleep. I, too, will pay the price. It's worth it.

I weep for the future of our country.

I do too.

A good night of sleep makes or breaks our day. It is finally cooling down here in the Northeast. We may get a hot spell in September, but it was 50 when I woke up this morning. No AC needed. Cool, fresh air is amazing.

I've been all over Canada, it's just like being in the US, except for the funny money, Kraft Dinner, and the metric system. You're probably subjected to the same garbage we are.

I film, photograph, and occasionally get in front of the camera, in fetish porn :)

Good pay, damn good benefits, and a fun job that i love...

I also tinker in website design and image editing / manipulation for websites, specifically graphic / logo design or custom work / effects for photographers :)

This is a great day my trekbbs friends. I've been summoned by the Internal Revenue Service to a fingerprinting/ final interview that will take place a couple weeks from now. I've been asked to bring all the paperwork filled out that I need for federal employment, and my information for direct deposit. My sister in law who works there has confirmed that I've got it.

The past couple years have been very difficult on me, but I feel this is a wonderful opportunity. Full time hours, 9-5 Monday through Friday, benefits.....Just wonderful. It doesn't get better than this.

Congratulations on the job! :techman:

Now you just have to endure the ire of every US taxpayer! :D

Factory coordinator. We primarily produce major appliances and most of the time my job is to schedule production, chisel contingency plans and and pass on synchronization tasks to my subordinates (division coordinators).

And of course, in some of the sectors, I know the jobs the regular workers do and the material they use better than their own division coordinators so of course I also sometimes solve problems in separate departments in the face of adversity. But mostly it's the division coordinators' job, since my systematizations postulate that every division is functioning within normal parameters and are more centered around the big picture.
