Post, not poster people. OK?
It has this ______(fill in blank) so you should like it.I think TOS fans love the movie; it's got Kirk and Spock in it, after all. At least, the people I spoke with about the movie loved it. However, mileage may vary with TOS fundamentalists...
What really pisses me off if the argument that if you want mass appeal you can't have a smart film. Total bullshit.

You are right. Fortunately, Star Trek was just as smart as a lot of TOS episodes.
What is the Badass Robau lounge?
My thoughts exactly. What really pisses me off if the argument that if you want mass appeal you can't have a smart film. Total bullshit.

It wasn't even as smart as Star Trek's worst and weakest episodes.
I'm a big fan TOS. It's gotta me my favorite TV show. But it wasn't as "smart" as some think it was. Rose colored glasses and such.
This was not TOS... and it wasn't meant to be (ok, I'll stop--this has been hashed infinitum).
I didn't expect to like it. I went in armed with the "canon violations" and tried not to pay attention. And y'know, I just let myself relax and enjoy the movie. I had a blast!
I wish there was more time for character development, but there wasn't time. After all, was there any in ST:TMP? Maybe a touch on Spock, but that was it. ST:XI had more character development. Anyway, I also wasn't totally in synch with some of the characterizations, but overall I liked the interpretations.
And yeah, Kirk being promoted so quickly with so little experience was very hard to believe... because in TOS he was not a 'prodigy' commander. He was above average and fell into "hero" situations. This nuKirk is supposed to be an academic and technical genius. That's not oldKirk. But I'm OK with it.
It's funny... some people are so religious about TOS. That's where there is no tolerance of any contradiction. And so, you can't argue with people of that ilk. Let them squabble over minutia. It was a good movie. I look forward to the sequel.![]()
You're going to be the odd man out.. You and the three other people who post only to insult people who enjoyed this film.
Oh and by the way..
They built the Enterprise ON THE GROUND.
From my observation most of the vitriol is coming from one side and a small group of people. There is a fair amount of gloating from the otherside though. You're going to be the odd man out.. You and the three other people who post only to insult people who enjoyed this film.

Your 'side' is the one doing all the insulting and ganging up, and as far as that goes, the mega-trolling, though apparently only folks who don't follow the party line get the warnings.
And as far as that goes ... they built the enterprise (no caps for THAT ship in your movie) with ground-based dirtsider thinking. I'm glad you're happy togethier.
