What do you consider to be the Prime Timeline?

EAS has a great, extensive write up of this very subject, complete with graphs.
Lost me at EAS and graphs.
DISCOVERY was drastically retooled each season. The KlingOrcs were abandoned when it came time for SNW. Kurtzman Trek has blinked on multiple occasions. Let alone how you go from PICARD season 1 to season 3!
Yeah, the same is true for all of Trek. There is a constant reinvention going on in makeup, sets, concepts, and characters. None of which indicates a different "timeline". Trek has blinked so many times it could cause a 32nd Century hologram to breakdown.

That is why I'm to the point of, just tell me a good story.

I have no issue with people who watch the shows and go, "yes, I can see how this all fits together", I have an issue with the laziness behind "but, CBS says!!!"
Both are true for me.
Without the dictates (numerous for some reason) of it being Prime from CBS, I wonder how many people would still feel these shows are "Prime"?
I would.

But i don't regard TMP as Prime.
This is the way it should be. Seemingly, though, for a lot of viewers, it feels like where the show is taking place is more important than the quality of the show itself.
Indeed. A lot of it is coming across like Christopher Tolkien focusing on the color of the door or Frodo's eyes when proofreading his dad's work.

Same.

Indeed. The idea that it all holds together perfectly, or near perfectly, is willingly buying in to the changes and investing in the illusion rather than hunting for the seams and strings.

One reason I don't take those sites seriously, like Memory Alpha and EAS seriously like some, is because they seem to take everything that has been said as gospel and too literally when certain lines were clearly said in jest, or just a term or most often, oversimplification.

I am curious. Every TV show, movie and franchise has inconsistencies and discrepancies and retcons and whatever. How is it everyone can watch those without constantly screaming "alternate timeline!" at every turn like they do with Star Trek?

TMP, while I love the movie, has always been a leap for me to see as being the continuation of TOS. I enjoy the story it tells.
And it doesn't connect well with TOS or TWOK.

So, it stands apart snd since I don't enjoy the story and am not wowed by graphics it offers little.

If inclined, one could see it as the "start" of the Roddenverse Mark II*. ;)

*AKA the Berman shows.

Like Raymond turning 36 twice in Everybody Loves Raymond (or something like that) IIRC

Feel. No matter how one feels about the current shows, they are made by completely different people, with completely different experiences in a completely different world. We aren't who we were 57 years ago and it shows in SNW.

That doesn't make it a bad show, I think the first season is actually quite good until the last couple of episodes. It just doesn't mesh with TOS, for me.

There are those who go by what TPTB say on the matter. That every show and film, save for the Kelvin films, is part of the Prime timeline.

That's always been my view.

I can enjoy, or not enjoy, as I see fit, but only the people making [thing] have any right to say what [thing] IS.

If TPTB say it's prime, it's prime, and it's not my place to question.

Exactly my take.

57 years ago... Whoever I was in a Previous Life definitely agrees with you.

Subjective feelings. Something that can't ever be articulated but it is somehow known. It is confusing as balls but that's the nature of the world I guess.

As Kirk once said, sometimes a feeling is all we have to go on.
