What do people think of SNW (spoiler free please)

Best opening season of a Trek show so far, in my opinion. I think there’s room for it to get even better. They’re finding their feet, and there’s lots of subtle, talented writing. Definitely a ‘yay’ from me.

May be I should not have used the word politics but from discovery on it seems to over emphasis the woke agenda more than it should.

Welcome aboard. So, some points to your points:

Watching Trek "Because Trek" is a dumb reason. No Trek is worth it.

Second, politics was infused throughout Trek. Especially TOS.

Third Voyager presided over a massive decline in Trek's ratings. I guess that's fine.

Fourth, TOS had jokes all the time. This is not a Marvel thing. This has been a part of Trek and storytelling for a long time.

Finally, Next Generation had the most robotic presentation of humans. They came across as emotionless and unconnected with others. That is not relatable.

May be but even voyager had 7 seasons ever since then they can't get past 4 seasons may be SNW will get past 7 who knows personally I don't think so.

Dude, you're spamming your ass off. Multiple sequential posts are against the board rules. If you click "Quote" on each post you want to reply to, you can do them all in one.
Thanks for that I am not good with all this so try to find my way around I just realised I thought hitting reply to a post is all I had to do.

Yeah, “Reply” is a one-off and “quote” is an aggregator”. You’ll learn quickly and welcome to the BBS.

Says the guy who named himself "FundyDen". Seems like a bit of a "Physician, heal thyself" situation.

Respecting a person or group's dignity and basic human rights and expecting equality under the law for all people is not a "woke agenda", it's just doing the right thing, and it's something Trek has espoused from the beginning.

Yes that's what it is supposed to be but it quickly descended into far left thinking that has permeated all walks of life especially the media and they hate democracy.
Star trek was very centrist and championed true liberalism but I can see in discovery and SNW falling hostage to the far left agenda which does not believe in the rights and opinions of all people.

The bridge crew of TOS consisted of a black woman in the middle of the civil rights struggle, a Russian in the middle of the Cold War, a Japanese man twenty years after WWII ended, and two Jewish actors as the leads. If the same cast were to be used today, throwbacks would be calling it a "woke agenda" too. They featured interracial kisses (they weren't the first to do so, but it was still a relatively new thing to show on TV), criticism of policy in Vietnam, criticism of the pointlessness of bigotry and hatred over petty differences in appearance, a society where the social safety net provides for the needs of the people, a choice to pursue peace and mutual understanding over conquest, and exposure of "gods" as artificial constructs or alien lifeforms rather then true deities.

Those choices were even more pronounced by the time TNG and the spin-off series rolled around, and more pronounced again by the time the new streaming services came out (keeping up with social changes in real life, as it should), although with a greater emphasis on LGBTQ people and causes as those were unfortunately given short-shrift during the Berman tenure.

Nothing's "falling hostage" to anything, it's a conscious choice by the actors, writers, showrunners, and executives to get with the times and show positive examples of representation and open-mindedness to serve as an inspiration to audience members of all ages, but especially the young, of a better, more inclusive and respectful tomorrow.

How does the Left hate democracy? Was it the Left storming the Capitol building to subvert the certification of the electoral votes and hang VP Mike Pence? Was it the Left trying to falsely declare voter fraud across the nation (in contradiction of Republican vote monitors) while simultaneously asking people to "find" some extra votes in Georgia? Are you talking about the Far Left in some place like Great Leap Forward and Cultural Revolution-era China, because that sure as hell doesn't apply to the US.

Whose rights are being denied, and by whom? I see women's bodily autonomy being infringed upon by the Conservative majority in the Supreme Court, and LGBTQ rights being trampled on, but that's not being done by the Left. Nor is your right to your opinion being infringed upon, but an opinion that demands to be heard so it can silence someone else or deny them their rights is rather hypocritical and unhelpful.

Anyway, since this is not part of the topic at hand, I will not respond to any further loaded political comments you have to make. But if you'd like to discuss Strange New Worlds, I'd be happy to do that.

You obviously did not read my post properly
From TOS to the end of star trek enterprise they never pushed an agenda and they promoted good liberal values now they are trying to make it to much about Left leaning woke values that all I am say, you may not agree but we are all entitled to our own opinions personally I think if they did it the way TNG did it, it would be better.
