What do people think of SNW (spoiler free please)

And you're entitled to your opinion. It's an absolutely idiotic opinion, but you're certainly entitled to it. As others have mentioned, as soon as you start talking about "woke politics", you come off as a..... certain type of person. A type of person who I honestly cannot understand why they watch Star Trek. Clearly, it's not for you. Trek has always been "woke". You just haven't been paying attention.

Star Trek embraced diversity from its very beginning. No idea why folks struggle with this. Maybe the news media has turned their brain to mush.

Ok first you are making assumptions it could saying it wrong I don't know.
When I say good old liberal values I mean it my point is TOS to the end of STE it really pushed us to be open minded ie fist kiss between black and white man and woman, black captain, transgender issue etc etc all good stuff but it was done subtlety it did not it did not take over the story and basically putting the story to second place ie it did not preach to us.
Discovery more than SNW went well over the top with lgbt stuff, feminism and transgender none binary etc again all good stuff but I just want to chill out in a bit of escapism not be preached at it is just going to far. No TOS, TNG, DS9, STV and STE did it better and was more enjoyable but that's just my opinion.
Star Trek before DSC did nothing for the LGBTQ+ community. NO-THING. Star Trek languished behind while society actually progressed. There is nothing over the top in DSC or SNW. If anything, it is well passed due based upon current culture.

And I say that as a non-liberal, but still someone who values diversity and acceptance in human relationships.

Star Trek has AWLAYS told stories that paralleled what was going on in society at the time the show was written. There have been episodes on race, the tragedy and aftermath of war, drug addiction, a GREAT many stories on the subject of god etc. Some were subtle, some were not. "Day of the Dove" was as subtle as a punch in the mouth, as was the soap box that Picard would stand on when trying to make a point to Q or some other race about humanity.

I only watched about the first season and a half of Discovery, but I don't remember anyone "preaching" to me. There was a gay couple sure, but they weren't standing around making speeches on a weekly basis. They were officers who so happened to be together and every once in awhile you would see them in their quarters talking about their day. Discovery had its issues, but preaching wasn't one of them. And I say that as someone who is not on the left end of the political spectrum.

Not a fan of SNW but I will watch it because it is startrek.
Why can they keep the same format as startrek NG I have no problem with updating but leave the politics out of it also I don't like them trying to be like marvel making the characters crack jokes all the time the crew should be disciplined like NG ok you have one suave officer but they making all of them come across suave.
They should stick to what works best and the NG, DS9 and Voyager did it best.

Yes, why can't it keep the politics out of it, like TNG, DS9 and Voyager.

...You did watch those shows, right?

VOY didn't do it best in almost any category except theme music and hologram sentience.

Until Author Author when they turned the Federation into slavers...

Welcome aboard. So, some points to your points:

Watching Trek "Because Trek" is a dumb reason. No Trek is worth it.

Second, politics was infused throughout Trek. Especially TOS.

Third Voyager presided over a massive decline in Trek's ratings. I guess that's fine.

Fourth, TOS had jokes all the time. This is not a Marvel thing. This has been a part of Trek and storytelling for a long time.

Finally, Next Generation had the most robotic presentation of humans. They came across as emotionless and unconnected with others. That is not relatable.

I was all set to like this post, then you had to start bashing TNG. Me and millions of others find them quite relatable...

Well we all have different opinions it could be my age I don't know but I don't think any star trek after voyager has been that good with may be star trek enterprise, they don't seem to get passed 3 or 4 seasons but from kirk to Jane way they have been unequivocally the best star treks they all had 7 seasons I think may be not the original.

Ssssoo...if Discovery makes it to seven seasons you'll consider it as good as TNG, DS9 and Voyager?

The Federation clearly has a very unhealthy attitude towards AI in the late 24th century. Obsolete EMH programs. Synths. Yet more proof of Federation hypocrisy and a system that can't even fix its own problems before it lectures the rest of the quadrant.

May be I should not have used the word politics but from discovery on it seems to over emphasis the woke agenda more than it should.

Perhaps you should not have used the term woke agenda unironically if you wanted any one to take you seriously...

From TOS to the end of star trek enterprise they never pushed an agenda and they promoted good liberal values

What, exactly, in your mind, is the difference?

When I say good old liberal values I mean it my point is TOS to the end of STE it really pushed us to be open minded
Discovery more than SNW went well over the top with lgbt stuff, feminism and transgender none binary etc

Obviously they didn't push you hard enough...

again all good stuff but I just want to chill out in a bit of escapism not be preached at

By "preached at" you mean...having gay people exist?

Yes.

And?

Great: now we're an improv duo.

Yep. The James Bond franchise saw its greatest box office numbers adjusted for inflation and height of global popularity and pop culture dominance during the Sean Connery films of the 1960s but had Bond films remained the way they were in, say, 1963(hard-edged espionage thrillers with little comic relief) the films wouldn't have made it to 1980 much less the early 21st century.

The episodes are hit or miss like Doctor Who. Some stories are great. Some not so much.

I prefer serialized stories these days. I feel like they go more in depth with the characters. Instead, what we get is a lot of time spent setting up the story, rather than character development.

I prefer not to eat 'serial' every week, lacks nutrients and gives me indigestion. I think a varied diet of diverse episodes is a much healthier alternative.

Some of the better current trek with less focus on contemporary political issues thankfully. More episodic, and some great casting of old TOS characters. Sickbay is on fire!! The prequel the Emterprise was not.

DS9 will always be my favorite Star Trek series. I love all of them (except Star Trek: Picard and Enterprise) but DS9 is my favorite and Strange New Worlds is slowly becoming one of my favorites.

I agree. SNW is everything Enterprise strived to be but failed. The characters on Enterprise are so wooden with the exception of Phlox. It has a few good entertaining episodes but the entire series has always been a dud for me.

not to create too many spoilers but I was amazed and oddly at peace with all the gratuitous full-frontal nudity, the revelation that horses did not survive the eugenics wars (Pike raised holo horses!?), the hidden clue being in the last surviving Faberge egg, Colt's soulful singing of ABBA's Fernando, and the recipe for colored food cubes. I hop

Is this snark?

I must have missed the gratuitous nudity.
