What do people think of SNW (spoiler free please)

The show is slowing down. the last 3 or even 4 episode have been average to even mediocre. I think people were too hyped up few weeks ago calling it the best season 1 yet.

the show is very average and the Kurtzman writing cracks are already beginning to show. SNW is a fun show but there is no depth not to mention many of the story lines like the Tpring/Spock/Chapel stuff is very teeny booper and cliche.

Pike to me has yet to lead and the last episode I hated how they made his fantasy character considering he is not really the opposite of that as the captain.

To be fair, I find Discovery season 1 better as I feel some of the wacky comedy stuff in SNW is really hurting the show like the last episode and Angel from episode 7 who was basically a cartoonish character.

Jammer reviews are right, she seems to be one of the few fans who is able to call of how this show has been mediocre since episode 5-6.

I consider SNW average but I cannot agree about Pike not leading, or the teeny booper stuff. That's how relationships work, at least in my life. It's more dramatized, but it's a show, not a documentary.

People are demanding Star Trek return to more episodic, TOS style, storytelling. So, SNW does it. And now it's just "average." Not sure how much depth was in every episode of TOS, but I've seen it about equal with SNW.

Last two have been campy, and I always seem to like those less, across any franchise, even when most seem to like them (A Piece of the Action, Bride of Chaotica, etc).

But SNW has been pretty darn good and enjoyable. Some slips and not perfect.

I'd still say best S1 since TOS. Really, DISCO or LD would be the other contenders. PRO is not over yet.

Not a fan of SNW but I will watch it because it is startrek.
Why can they keep the same format as startrek NG I have no problem with updating but leave the politics out of it also I don't like them trying to be like marvel making the characters crack jokes all the time the crew should be disciplined like NG ok you have one suave officer but they making all of them come across suave.
They should stick to what works best and the NG, DS9 and Voyager did it best.

No, they didn't.

SNW does it better.

I don't watch anything "because it's Star Trek."

There are shows that I watch on the day they drop. Right now that’s Ms Marvel, The Boys and For All Mankind.

SNW isn’t one of those shows. I still have to watch E07-08. It’s alright, but to me no more than that. A mildly distracting, largely depthless Sci-Fi show in a TOS skin.

I acknowledge that there’s loads to like about it but increasingly Id say it’s not my exact cup of tea. A Matcha rather than an Oolong. Pleasant, but not what I really wanted.

I’m happy others are getting so much from it though.

:guffaw:... No they didn't.

STAR TREK (1966-69) has stayed on the air in some form since it first aired. It may not have been a network yet but it was the big hit in syndication, and if not for it's 18 years of success prior, you would have never seen Star Trek the Next Generation or any of the other Berman era series.

SNW is a real breath of fresh air, and it's the form of Trek they should have taken back in 1987.

Welcome aboard. So, some points to your points:

Watching Trek "Because Trek" is a dumb reason. No Trek is worth it.

Second, politics was infused throughout Trek. Especially TOS.

Third Voyager presided over a massive decline in Trek's ratings. I guess that's fine.

Fourth, TOS had jokes all the time. This is not a Marvel thing. This has been a part of Trek and storytelling for a long time.

Finally, Next Generation had the most robotic presentation of humans. They came across as emotionless and unconnected with others. That is not relatable.

Well we all have different opinions it could be my age I don't know but I don't think any star trek after voyager has been that good with may be star trek enterprise, they don't seem to get passed 3 or 4 seasons but from kirk to Jane way they have been unequivocally the best star treks they all had 7 seasons I think may be not the original.
