What do people think of SNW (spoiler free please)

not to create too many spoilers but I was amazed and oddly at peace with all the gratuitous full-frontal nudity, the revelation that horses did not survive the eugenics wars (Pike raised holo horses!?), the hidden clue being in the last surviving Faberge egg, Colt's soulful singing of ABBA's Fernando, and the recipe for colored food cubes. I hope none of that interrupts your own experience when you finally watch it.
None of that is true, is it?

I remember being startled about three weeks after it premiered when an acquaintance at a barbecue started raving about how great it was - he was a casual fan, and the first person I'd encountered who didn't have some objection to it. And it went on that way, for years...
i remember watching the premier of TNG with my girlfriend of the time. She/we loved it and watched it every week. I hadn't known she was a Trek fan. There being no internet then, and I barely ever glanced at TV reviews in the entertainment section so I had no idea what anyone thought..
Nice boobies.
You can say that again!

Best of the nu-Trek shows by quite a margin so far. This one actually feels like Star Trek.

Two episodes in, I remain cautiously optimistic.

A friend was trying to find someone to go to a concert with her the night TNG premiered, but we all said no to watch the show. (Sucks when all your friends are nerds.) She was always more a Whovian. In retrospect, the concert might have been the better option.

I'm struggling. I like the visuals, and the pacing isn't rushed like other recent Trek shows. But I still feel bored.

Maybe I'm just burned out? I did catch up on the following Trek over the past 5 months:

Into Darkness
Beyond
entire TAS
DISC Seasons 1-4
PIC seasons 1-2
LD seasons 1-2
entire Short Treks
PRO first 9 episodes
first 2 episodes of SNW
rewatches of many TOS, TNG, DS9, VOY & ENT episodes

That's a lot after such a long break (besides a few show repeats, I'd only seen the first Abrams movie since ENT ended).

That is definitely one way to get burned out on Star Trek!

I've only seen maybe half of what you have (86 episodes from 9 of the series in the last 5 months), but I've been feeling the same thing about SNW to be honest. It's got a solid cast and I'm sure they'll win me over in time, but the stories haven't grabbed my interest yet.

I think it has potential to be my favorite of the new Star Treks. Right now I'm enjoying it as much as I enjoy Prodigy and Lower Decks, and that's a good thing.

Two episodes in, this series has been fantastic so far. I feel like trek is finally back as a lifelong trekkie
That's exactly how I feel. My folks don't stream so if the quality of the show continues I'll be picking up this set on blue ray for them whenever it gets released.

So, adventures in TV....

I haven't been watching much for years, mostly just catching some live sports and reruns of shows I like. Trek for example. My TV's audio was pretty distorted but it didn't matter when I knew what everyone was saying anyway.

Long story short, tonight I got some AAA's for the TV remote and fixed the settings. Eureka! I can understand what they're saying! Now I'll re-watch episode one and maybe comment on it tomorrow. Right now, I just watched episode 2 AND IT WAS FREAKIN' AMAZING.

Best thing I loved: Nichelle Nichols had an amazing voice, and we heard her sing on a few occasions. This episode was a tribute to Nichelle. Gooding's voice gave me chills, actually reminding me of Uhura in TOS. The way the storyline pivoted around music was inspired. The main plot would have looked good in TOS, except so much better in detail.

So yeah, this tastes more like TOS than any Trek since. I love the cast. Jess Bush as Christine Chapel at first was weird, but she is so likeable and energetic she's got me caught. Anson Mount has me ready to follow him into a nebula. Ethan Peck is getting there, and I get they don't want him to loosen up too much too soon. I still haven't quite figured out La'an, but I think once I re-watch episode one with proper sound I'll catch on. Number One is... Number One, but I'm getting a hint of Kira Nerys in there somewhere. Maybe it's just me. Not selling the rest short, I'm getting into them all.

So far, this is a show I think I'm going to love.
