What did you think the future would be like?

I don't know what I was expecting. I think space travel would have been more than now. Stuff with computers, digital media is more convenient than I could have imagined because there is no need for a hard copy or paper.

I didn't think the geo-political atmosphere to be as hostile as it is.

My personal life I hoped for a home, a partner & children. Now all that seems impossible. :sigh:

Personal jetpacks! OR programmable personal flying vehicles. Long long lives--like hundreds of years long.

About the comments in regards to space exploration. It's not that we aren't capable of achieving more, it's purely a lack of trying. Nobody cares about space like they did during the space race.

I was expecting a moonbase around 1999 ala Space 1999. It's been pretty pathetic how manned space travel hasn't met expectations, but I admit that probes and telescopes have done wonderful things.

ok I read different information from the moonbase ,,, after Reagan put the ecosystem on its nomical arse there we are .. moon-base-alpha.. ,,, errr with a moonbase starwars program,, you know of course I did not type that something made me type that m,,,, mmmmm,,, I guess.,,

I remember reading a magazine article back in 1994, about how within the next 15-30 years, the average human life span would be well over 100+ years of age. I wish I could remember what article and publication, but suffice to say it doesn't seem likely at this point. Something tells me the editors of the article never considered the massive politicization over healthcare.

It's pretty much people that are disappointing here in the "future"-- the apathy, the ignorance, the ideology. The current Zeitgeist is lacking in inspiration.

I will add my vision of the future/disappointment to the loss of manned spaceflght and the US preemenence in it. Thought we would be worlds away by now.

I also remembering hoping the moving slidewalks I saw in the magazines and read about in books would be everywhere.

Certainly the SST, and the like. Ah, for one brief sonic boom shining moment.

Disease and poverty a thing of the past.

Funny, I do not remember thinking computers were going to be the massive thing they are.

I'm not disappointed in the technology or medical science, but I am disappointed it is all not more universally - globally available and that money is still the driving force behind that. In other word, science is still cool and people/politics/economics still suck.

In the past what did you think the world was going to look like in 2014? did you ever expect like it does today or not?

I was expecting real-time projected holograms by now. I was expecting Holographic technology would be everywhere.

I was also expecting paper thin displays that can fold up. That technology is finally a possibility, so we are almost there to my full realization. However, holograms, got a long ways to go.

I was also expecting that maybe we'd lick anti-gravity by now, but apparently not.

I was also expecting we would at least have a moon base and people living on the moon regularly, and maybe even visits to space as recreation. Maybe even a Mars landing.

Also, where's my Cafe 80s?

I'm sure some hipsters have opened up an 80's themed restaurant somewhere.

There is a restaurant in California called New Wave, but it's not 80s enough from what I've read.

And that's why no on knows where it is or goes there. It's run by hipsters.

Exactly. Who wants to go to a place run by hipsters? Why would I pay $10 for a small artesian water lovingly handcrafted by an avante-garde Sherpa named Kilroy?

I never really thought about it, although I agree I had high hopes we'd be back to the Moon / heading to Mars very soon.

Computers I think are faster than I expected; I wasn't expecting anything in the region of Siri telling me the weather.

Didn't expect flying cars or teleporters. Was hoping for better food distribution around the planet but sadly we still have starving countries...
