What did you do/not do this weekend?

I watched Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull on Blu-Ray. I may be in the minority but I still enjoyed it the second time around.

I'm with you ... personally, I have no more trouble accepting the nuclear fridge and aliens than I do the Holy Grail and a heart-eating voodoo shaman.

When you put it like that ... I don't know why I do have more of a problem with the nuclear fridge!

I should rewatch it as well. Maybe do a marathon, even.

AA and I took a cruise to Helsinki with kiddo and AA:s parents. Had a blast, did some drinking, shopping and dancing and watched my boy having a wonderful time and behaving himself like a prince all the time :). 2 nights on the boat and Saturday spent in Helsinki. Sunday we got home and cooked ourselves a glorious meal and loafed around.
Today (monday I know.. but it is the first day of my vacation also) we took a tour in Stockholms Stadshus (City Hall) and climbed the belltower. Awesome.

What I did not do? Pay the bills. But im planning on getting around to it.

But to make up for this, in the evening we entered a pub quiz and won first prize, which was £50 in vouchers to spend at the pub! There were five in the team, which is £10 each - enough for a nice meal all together, which we're going to have on Tuesday night. Hooray! :)

No, no, no! You're meant to spend the money on drink, not food! Today's youth no nothing! :p

Well, I figured £10 won't go far in terms of drink in today's prices (tut, sigh, etc) so I thought a meal would be more satisfactory.

...unless I mug my friends for the other £40 and go CRAZY with the top shelf...

^ Wow - that would be great. I wonder how hard it would be? The thickeners used in fillings like curd...I don't know how they'd react to canning, but if you could figure it out, that would be FABulous.

You know, will be my first canning attempt, total newbi, so I definitely have a little learning curve. But it's likely I may end up doing a lemon vanilla marmalade, which I'd be happy with, I think.

Hmm.. since Lemon curd contains so much eggs and butter, I think it would be bad to save it for more than a month..

Anything that you are able to can will last a lot longer than a month. I just don't know if lemon curd is one of those things that's cannable. Or is it cannible? Anyway, able to be canned. Home-canned meat, for example, lasts lots longer than a month, if it's canned properly.

The only issue is that they nicked part of the idea from an episode of Stargate SG-1 (conveniently entitled "Crystal Skull"). (Though Daniel Jackson is clearly based on Indy anyway).

Things accomplished:

1. Canned - yes! like a 1940s farmwife! - 8 pints and 2 quarts of green beans. I've canned before, but always the easy, high-acid or high-sugar kinds of foods (tomatoes, jams, preserves) that you can simply by filling the canning jars correctly and boiling them for a while. But this was with a pressure canner, and with a pressure canner, assuming you don't mess up, you can preserve pretty much anything. So I thought I'd start with green beans because (1) Our garden has been producing green beans like crazy, (2) apparently my garden isn't alone in this since the local farmers seem to have a lot of green beans, too, and they're selling them for cheap, and (3) in order to can green beans, you don't have to peel them or seed them or cook them or anything tedious - just cut off the ends and there you go. It went OK, although the pressure canner is a little more...twitchy than I expected. My next project will be spaghetti sauce, but that'll have to wait until I have a lot more tomatoes.

Impressive. I can homemade jam, but I'm way too chicken to can anything else. I know it's safe if done properly, but I have this tiny fear in the back of my mind that I'll do it wrong and give everyone botulism.

^ I said I'd done the canning - I haven't actually eaten any of it yet. ;)

But I'm thinking it's going to be a while before I do something really spoilable like, say, beef stock.

Saturday I spent all day cleaning and building shelves to put all the shit I cleaned up. Then I made fajitas for dinner. :techman:

Yesterday I tinkered with my guitar toys.

I enjoyed it more the second time around, only because I was so impatient to see the whole thing first time around. Second time I was able to relax and just watch.

And I love the nuclear fridge. Talk about quick thinking. :D

Friday night ran a couple of errands and then came home and crashed a bit. Saturday I also ran some more errands and came back home to watch some pretty good movies on TV. Sunday night, went to a ballgame with Dad and it was loads of fun! We ate at a resturant at the ballpark and talked about cheerleaders and the like. Then sweated like a muthafrakker from the damned humidity. The greatest thing about last night was that a guy was undressing me with his eyes. :D It was nice to be looked at! And when I looked at him flirtaciously, he looked the other way, pretending not to notice me. I sat with Dad the first half of the game and the last half I sat with a lady who is 45 going on 18! I kid you not! And she looks damn good for her age as well. ;) She's a hoot! So all in all, pretty good weekend.

Went to a low-key party Saturday and shot some pool with The Lady Sunday. All in all, a nice weekend.
