What comic book would you turn into a movie / franchise?

would have preferred to see a Grimjack movie than the bullshit they tried to pass off as Jonah Hex lol

Dragon's Claws, an old Marvel UK comic created by the twin gods Simon Furman and Geoff Senior.

Earth, 8162. A dying world where the Moon has left orbit, taking the seas with it. The World Government created The Game as an opiate to the masses, a bloody violent 'sport' in which Dragon's Claws were the greatest team. With the violence spiralling out of control The Game was shut down, but the teams never went away. With the old games teams becoming a threat, the government creates NURSE: National Union of Retired Sports Experts to police them, Dragon's Claws are recruited to be the chief enforcers.

It all goes down hill from there, with cults, conspiracies, copy-cat vigilantes, murder, betrayal and all sorts.

I suppose Dr. Strange would be cool too, but only if they were able to do it in a more art house way. Very similar to the Ditko comics. I don't really see that happening though. If they do it, it will probably be done in a big blockbuster style. But the great thing about the Marvel movies is that they proved you can do smaller characters and be successful. Before these movies, Iron Man and Thor weren't exactly A-list.

My ultimate dream though would be to see The Flash. The Flash is probably my favorite franchise, but after Green Lantern, I'm just scared they'll screw him up.

I'd pay money to see Nextwave: Agents of H.A.T.E. ;)

But seriously, the vast majority of the comics I read would suit a TV show better than a film so a full mythology can be constructed. Something like Unwritten, DMZ or Saga would be stunning TV - with an HBO budget ;) In fact there are a whole heap of excellent modern comics in TV development hell, all of which could be great fun if they ever made it to air: Powers, 100 Bullets, Alias, Chew

Frankly given the vast majority of the BIG heroes have all been done, I'd prefer to see a move away from the typical superhero bent and put out something a little more esoteric than "Man/Woman in Capes/Tights"

Something by Brukbaker/Phillips would be nice: Both Sleeper and Incognito lend themselves nicely to adaptation as does their current horror title, Fatale

Sandman has the epic quality that could lend itself to a trilogy (or franchise) of films, especially if you get someone like Curan/del Toro behind the camera

I am currently reading Fabio Moon/Gabriel Ba's rather beautiful Daytripper which could be a lovely film akin to that of Ghost World/Road to Perdition if done well.

Though the Vampire craze is dying down, I think American Vampire would work very well as a franchise of films. The first 5 issues would work wonderfully as a period horror piece, and then if successful the film makers can pick whatever decade they want to play with.

But I would like to chime in with Moon Knight also. Though it took a few issues to find its feet, Bendis' recent (and cancelled run) turned out to be a pretty good crime thriller with a superhero bent that would fit in quite nicely against Nolan's Bat universe - and actually contextualise it a little too by playing out "The Superhero might not be all there" motiffe :)

And after finding Dr Strange in Fractions new run of The Defenders I think he would make a wonderful central character, as would in fact the current grouping of The Defenders as a whole given it incorporates pretty much everyone posters here are asking for: Stange, Namor, She-Hulk, Iron-Fist, Surfer - though of course there are some issues about which studios own whom.

Hugo - Would love to see a hoard of fat floating Elvis' trying to kill The Captain ;)

Or they could do a nice tie-in with the Avengers, Fantastic 4, and X-Men franchises if they did The Infinity Gauntlet.

-Fantastic Four, since we've still not been treated to a proper version yet.
-The Flash, who is long overdue.
-Namor the Sub-Mariner, also overdue.
-Saga of the Swamp Thing, based on Alan Moore's run with the Swamp Thing comic.

Marvel: Dr Strange
DC: Martian Manhunter, The Flash (damn I miss that show!), Hellblazer done *right*.

Other: Marshal Law, Strontium Dog, Nemesis The Warlock... The latter would probably have to be anime or CG-animation

Oh and Ennis' Hitman - a film surrounding Tommy, the Arkannone and the Mawzir would be a complete blast if they did it in the vein of Hellboy and kept the rating at an R.

Hugo - yeah, yeah, i know, never happen!

So...The Hunger Games with actual death combat and not just a teenage girl running around looking confused for a whole movie? :D

yeah, and it's teams. and several of the teams have themes, like "the Wildcats" who all wore big cat furs and were called Lion, Tiger, Puma, Panther and Leopard or the Claws arch nemeses, "The Evil Dead" (i shit you not) who comprised Slaughterhouse, Death Nell, Feral, Hex and Kronos. the latter three were killed off and replaced by Hack, Rend and Slash.

From what I've read about it, Hellblazer sounds like one that could make a pretty good TV series. From the descriptions I've read on Comixology most of the stories sound fairly small, and character driven, so it doesn't seem like it would take a huge blockbuster budget to do a good job of it.

So long as they also keep Baytor and Sixpack! I almost nominated Hitman myself - though I suspect it'd need a title change to avoid confusion with the videogames and their less successful movie spinoff.

the the TopCow universe could be amazing for a movie franchise as well...

you've got Witchblade, The Darkness, The Magdelana, Tomb Raider... launching them separately for movies then having crossover style movies would be amazing to watch :)

Magdalena would be too controversial, given her history/origin, and probably come off as too much of a Buffy riff. I'd watch it though, as I'm a fan of both. :D

Projects I'd like to see:

Teen Titans
Cloak and Dagger (hope the tv series gets made and is good)
WildCATs (classic team)
Gen 13
and some Marvel project with Firestar in it

To my mind, Steve Engelhart's run on DR. STRANGE back in the seventies is the best I've ever seen the character handled. Although the early Lee/Ditko stuff is classic, too, with all those great psychodelic (sp?) visuals . . . .
