What classic novels would you like to see adapted?

I don't recall the sequence of events, since a starship patrol is assigned to "Planet Guardian" which tips off the Romulans as a possible military outpost. Regardless, the Marines are a part of the mop up, ordered by Commodore Wesley.
Which novel was this?

I definitely remember that novel, but for the more obvious plotline. Plus it's been 25+ years since I read it.
Probably my favorite novel as a young fan. I borrowed it from the library repeatedly and then bought it when they discarded it.

Really enjoyed the references to different security personnel, the Lexington, and the follow up to both "All our Yesterdays" and "The Enterprise Incident."

Maybe not a specific novel, but I hope they can somehow emulate the bonkers quality of the older novels, back when continuity wasn't a cross to bear.

I'm liking the tone of what I'm seeing in the previews so far. I hope they just remember to play this with more of what made TOS fun, and not try to keep it consistent with anything later

None.

But if They really wanted to, I think "FEDERATION" would be one of the more interesting choices.

Not a novel, a novella: A Less Perfect Union from the first Myriad Universes book, in which a xenophobic United Earth Starship Enterprise is under the command of Pike.

Vanguard series, best Trek ever!

I can't disagree with your assessment of its quality, but I don't think I'd want to see SNW adapt Vanguard. The Enterprise crew was only involved at the beginning and the end, IIRC. What I'd like to see is a full-on prestige Vanguard miniseries, that can focus on the Vanguard characters and plots, without worrying about trying to shoehorn the Enterprise into the ongoing story.

Come on, Paramount, what are you waiting for? :D

I agree that these would be great stories to adapt, but I don't know how you could adapt them for SNW. Federation is very specifically about the TOS and TNG crews having an interaction -- it's a very metatextual work celebrating Star Trek as a franchise, and I think it relies on it being the TOS and TNG crews specifically. I suppose you could maybe have it as a crossover between the SNW and DIS crews, but they feel like they'd be a little too familiar with each other since Mount's Pike started out on DIS.

With Less Perfect Union, I just think it would risk coming across as just another variation on the Terran Empire/Confederation of Earth, and would undermine the unique identity that SNW looks like it's trying to establish for itself as the retro episodic, bright and optimistic version of modern Trek.

None. I would rather see new stories with the characters.

The only exception I would make would be for Vulcan's Glory, and only because it was written by Dorothy Fontana. It would actually be kind of appropriate to see her given posthumous screen credit on a Strange New Worlds episode.

Ditto.
